FWIW, my MC20 that was supposed to be delivered in Q1 (USA delivery) is now projected for a May production and July delivery.

Sutcliff really liking this is quite telling. He is a tough nut to crack. If it is as good as he says, Maserati might just be reinventing the mid engine GT. Most everything mid engine on the market is so hard-edged it is to the point that one would believe if it’s mid-engined and exotic and at least $200k, there is only one way it can be, but that does not at all appear to be the case now. If it sells well and this sort of, and I hate to use this but not sure how else to put it, ‘nerf’ yet still extremely fast and capable and be driven all day, I have to wonder re other makers responses. Rattle-your-teeth-out fast-loud-and-angry at about this price point is done by everyone and anyone. Cars are all so fast it implies the question, what is the point?

    Exactly!:)
Bora vs the 'alternatives': Countach to Pantera & all others in between!

Luckily, it looks as if the audiance has grown up a little by 2022;)

I look at it as a discounted 720s - the comfortable exotic.

Its kinda interesting that reviewers keep bringing up the Alfa 4c but Maserati keeps shutting them down. IMO there's nothing wrong with similarities with the Alfa 4c technically but the marketing people want a clean break.

I like this car. I want a convertible though. If its what the Alfa 4c should have been, that's OK with me. Yes its 800 lbs heavier than the 4c but it has 2.5 times the HP and torque. Youzers! The 4c is so much fun to drive but 1) it will break your back on long trips 2) it won't break any speed limits. And a lack of power steering makes it really difficult to park or do low speed cornering.

Plus the MC20 has an adjustable suspension and much, much nicer interior than the Alfa. To me the best thing is the new engine with no hybrid.

And between it and similar priced McLarens and Lambo's, its much better looking. The Ferrari 296 GT beats it in the looks department but is way too complex for my tastes engineering wise. And I bet more 296's will be close to $400K when optioned out. The MC20 all topped out will be closer to the starting price of the 296.

Lastly -- it actually looks like "a Maserati". Its not retro but you can tell its a Maserati without looking at the badge. That's a good thing.

Great to see these reviews come online. Sutcliff is a serious journalist and his high praise is exciting to hear. There is very consistent critique on the engine/exhaust sound - really hoping that good aftermarket options are available shortly.

The MC20 is being compared and contrasted to a lot of other mid-engine cars. A comparison that I haven’t heard but that I think is relevant is to the 4.0L Boxster GT4 and upcoming GT4RS. Some may say those cars are more track oriented but Porsche consistently does a great job of making all of their cars civil to use as street cars. The GT4/4RS will be down about 100HP but are also quite a bit less expensive.

the gt4rs can't be compared because they are impossible to get, I actually think the market value of them could be more expensive than the mc20

to me Maserati have got everything right with this car.

    To quote:

...After a fair amount of seat time the beauty of the MC20 offering is clear. Here is a more elegant sort of Italian, mid-engined supercar, that melds genuine GT ability with all the outright performance you might hope for, yet in a particularly usable, friendly and involving way. It’s quite a unique sort of concept, perhaps not readily apparent on paper, but one that really gets under your skin once you’ve experienced it.:):):)

MASERATI IS FINALLY BACK after two generations (i.e. 40 yrs).
Congrats to all the genuine fans of the Trident!

Gee I kinda remember being BLASTED when I said MC20 was more of a GT than a hard core Sports car.

Now that others agree with me, is it OK to say so?

As usual I have NO idea what you are on about!

It may help refreshing your recollection that I drive a K and a Bora not a 4C:):):)

My general views on the MC20 can be found in a prior post reproduced below:

Given the way he said he never really understood what any Maserati was supposed to be it didn't sound like he's driven many very many vintage Maseratis.
He certainly likes this one though! I wonder what his size is?

You should let him have a drive in your Bora. How great would it be if he became a cheerleader for that car.

We now have within the Stellantis group the MC20 and the Alfa 4C. I hope it stays that way, two great flagships. Two really great, appealing and technologically convincing sports cars. And the two have one thing in common: they both stand out clearly with their beautiful design. And I think beautiful design is one of the main features to be able to sustainably establish itself as a classic.
