Thanks Erik! Having my ECUs updated to the Go-Flo tune was my next step if I had kept the car, and it ran great with the OEM tune on the ECUs, but I was told by a few experts that the update picks up as much as 10-15% more power by targeting a better stoichiometric ratio, which also helps with the “rich” smell typical of most catless cars. I also recommend changing spark plugs to copper Champion RAH4C for an even cleaner burn. I was changing my copper plugs every 10k miles due to the richness of the OEM tune, and I expect longer life with the leaner Go-Flo tune.

Regarding the ECUs themselves, the standard way of doing it is by removing your ECUs and then mail them to Rod Drew, he desolders the EPROMs, wipes them, flashes them with the Go-Flo tune, solders them back on to the ECU boards, and mails them back to you for plug’n’play installation. Now that I really think about it I am not 100% sure if it is possible to have a second set of ECUs ready to go with the tune in exchange for stock ECUs unless there was also a security module “married” to those ECUs. As I understand it, one or both of the security modules under the passenger seat requires programming of the ECU serial number in order to defeat the immobilizer system. I am guessing that having one of the 550 security vendors disable the immobilizer system might address this, but it might take some testing to determine exactly how the final behavior would play out. Additional security modules married to the alternate ECUs would definitely address this. I hope this helps, and let me know if I need to clarify anything.

Interesting thank you. Rod is well known in Ferrari circles (http://ferrarioc.com/?page_id=74). I wonder if they have any optimized maps for the 575. Unfortunately there was no cat-less OEM option for the 575 that I am aware of.

    Thanks!
What I want to do is the following:
    1) Get instant throttle response. No delay.
    2) Take off the catalyzers for improved old school engine sound.
    3) Get a better tune which is safe on european 95 octane normal gas. That's the only gas I can get everywhere. Shell V-power 99 octane is the only higher octane fuel. 95 is about the same as 93 in America from what I heared. I have always used 95 and have had no problems.

95 is more like US 89-91.

Yes, throttle response and power, especially 6500rpm to realize we're the biggest difference. Throttle response was like there was no resistance, just an absolute joy.

Hi Erik, I just want to clarify that I only performed the headers upgrade and I did not complete the ECU tune update before selling my 550. The ECU guy is Rod Drew at Francorchamps of America: http://ferrarioc.com/ and I will PM you his email address. I am looking forward to seeing how your car performs with these updates!

What is the weight of the flywheel and how many folks on here have had theirs lightened? This should also improve throttle response.

I just happen to have my old flywheel beside my desk as "art". It's 22 lb.

Just wanted to add to this that I bought Fabio’s X-Pipe and valved mufflers, left the stock headers, and the 550 sounds awesome. No drone (which was a huge problem with the earlier Tubis on our car). He’s a master craftsman.

Thanks. I think this is remarkably heavy for a V12 engine that is one of the best-balanced engine design, harmonically speaking.
I imagine we could shave 30% off without any detrimental effect other than making the relatively slow gear change (*) feel even slower... Anyone with real world feedback?

(*) at least by e.g. Porsche transaxles standards

Having just returned to Europe I have to say I noticed 98 being a bit harder to get now, the fact that you use 95 constantly is re-assuring.

@360trev just helped complete a 612 with 599 MAFS with really strong results. Combined with a Fabio exhaust I would say that not only would it sound really good but would quite easily break the 600hp barrier as well. Quite sure his "swiss army knife" cracks the 550 ECU's as well so he can remap them for 95. Lighten the flywheel a little like below and you'll have a monster...

    Fantastic. I love this forum.

Sorry for the lack of updates on Fabio building my exhaust system...well I'm glad to say it was completed at the beginning of last week and managed to get it installed directly by Fabio last Friday ! Well, what can I say...it transformed the car . Throttle response so much better, it does really feel it has all the gains Fabio (and the rolling road) mentioned !! And the noise...glorious !! This short clip has been recorded using an external microphone, in the cabin the noise is great but never obnoxious or too much, it is just perfect imv for a GT car you want to drive over long journeys !! No droning at all and 38 Kg less compared to the standard exhaust .

    What not to like ??

    Congratulations! I’m very jealous.
Did you do the full system with H pipe and rear HGTC style Mufflers?

A black manual 575M with full Fabio system....... It is a dreamcar very very difficult to top. Substantially more elegant and user friendly than a Lambo of the time. And the same performance. And less maintainance costs. Better looks than 599s and up. Four tail lights like Ferraris should have. And feom the Montezemolo era. PERFECT.

Just had Fabio’s valved exhaust and h-pipe installed on my 550. Previous exhaust was Tubi 1st gen.
The car sounds amazing with valves
Open and closed. Noticeable difference in how freely and smoothly the car revs without the restrictor pipes. Feels a lot faster!
Needless to say, will be selling the Tubi’s for a good price…
