    Hi all,
I’m new to Ferrari world and i live in NYC and i put VERY little miles on my cars, (historically a Porsche guy) I have a chance to place a new build order (guess it’s not so difficult to get on this list as I thought) for either Roma Portofino M or 296…. I realize this is not apples to apples comparison (296 mid engine and more $, etc) but hoping for any feedback on thoughts pros cons etc. from any current owners. I love the new tech cabin on Roma but I also love body contours on Portofino M and to me what is a more traditional Ferrari with round lights interior cabin etc

As what seems to be more of a weekend fun car, I would not even consider the two GT entry models. 296 for sure.

Thank you [emoji120]. This is kind of how I was rationalizing. If that’s your Ferrari in your profile picture it’s gorgeous

I had two considerations when ordering my Porto
    1. with the roof down two people can actually get into and out of the back seats. No, they are not too comfortable but without the open roof (i.e. in the Roma) you have to be a Cirque du Soleil contortionist to get in or out!
    2. It is great fun to be able to drive open top. Perhaps not in NYC (fumes) or in January but hey, come April, when you get into the country-side.:D
I do not deny the 296 is the more advanced car.
Wonder what you will decide on

Let’s see lot to consider among them even if I should go new or look for a great pre owned 458 spider

If you're looking for a spider but want the latest and greatest mid-engine you may as well wait. 296 Spider will be inbound imminently one suspects.

Personally I went with the Roma. Not massively into convertibles, for me it's a semi-daily driver (London as opposed to NYC) and I don't want to have to faff about with suspension lifter nonsense. Also as I think it's the best looking car they've made in decades and I want as many 8 or 12 cylinder cars as possible before they stop making them. That much said, I'll probably also get an Emira v6 manual as part of my forever garage before they stop production as they've already said it'll be their last pure ICE car and quite like driving manuals for fun.

Let us know what you decide!

Which Porsches float your boat? What differences do you wish to experience with whatever Ferrari you order/buy? I'm a fan of both P and F cars, and used to live in NYC/tri-state region.

If you want it sooner than later and prefer a top down option I would definitely go with the M. If you want a true weekend fun car then I think you would be happier with the 296.

Sounds like you're a "traditionalist" with a preference for a bit of open air. The front-engine 8-cylinder Ferrari's have much less tradition than the mid-engine layout, and the 296 is certainly a new direction with hybrid powertrain. Maybe you should take a closer look at a 458 Spider, plus that will spare you from much of the early years of depreciation with newer Ferrari's. I'm sure you will enjoy whatever you decide, best wishes.

Had the same choice a few years back with the newly debuted F8 or portofino in mid 2019. I went with the Porto and ended up trading it in toward a Pista after a year or so. It was a great car, but lacked the handling and preciseness that you think of when you think “Ferrari”. . I think the Porto would make a great SECOND Ferrari for Sunday cruises with the Mrs, but not an ONLY Ferrari. Just my opinion.

I agree. The Porto and Roma make great 2nd Ferrari's.

I have a 911 targa 4 GTS and a California T. They drive completely differently. The Cali is an amazing comfortable drive especially for long trips. The Porsche is a harsher ride and urges you to drive more aggressively and faster all the time. So for zipping around especially when in a rush, take the porsche. For an enjoyable ride, take the ferrari. In NYC, the roads suck and you need to zip around. I suspect the 296 is more harsh a ride like the porsche. While the portofino and roma probably more like my Cali T. So depends on what most of your driving is like.
