42 Years ago today I flew my Hot Air Balloon as part of the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, NY. Of the 35 or so balloons staged to fly only 7 of us got airborne. Very windy day, but there was no way I wasn't going to fly. Image Unavailable, Please Login

I think thats March Air Force Base
Back in the 1980s, we used to shoot practice PAR approaches into March. You couldn't land, but you could do the approach. Also, if I remember correctly, there is a fantastic air museum there.
Oak Harbor is a very small airport near Whidbey Is NAS. Whidbey controllers handle enroute traffic in that area and used to provide PAR into Oak Harbor. Only did it once, and that was at night. Fun stuff.
Yes, Whidbey handles a fair amount of the traffic in the islands there. I go into Orcas Island a few times a year, and if I remember correctly, you are talking to Whidbey on the way in and out.

I’d never heard of them until I joined the military. The precision always seemed to amaze me.. (Still does actually).
Did a mountain flying course last weekend at Centennial, combined with short trip to Breckenridge. Flying out of Leadville I saw my best ever IAS/TAS spread: 139/187. Turbo Cirrus, OAT -25C Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Did an out and back. PAFA-PAMH-PAFA. Was an absolutely beautiful day although a little chilly. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Been some of the best weather we ever get here in Central Illinois. Got to take up the PT-19 for a few Touch and goes. One of the most fun airplanes ever made.
How does that fly? I've read that they can be a little tricky. Very cool airplane have seen one at CEU.
I have plenty of hours in the PT-19 and they are the easiest airplane that you can fly. Wide landing gear makes them comfy on the ground in any stage of operation. They are gentle and predictable in the air if you don't abuse the AOA, smooth on the controls and do any maneuver nice and smooth. They do require adequate speed to execute maneuvers but they do them without quirks. I liked the PT-26 and PT-23 with the Cont. 220 on it, more power and torque and more crisp performance. A really nice fun airplane. If I still flew, I would have one today....along with a Stearman PT-13, 17.
CUTE KIDS ! Great picture. I sure miss the little guys now that I'm close to 100 but I sure had fun with them when they were that age. My oldest is 72 and my youngest is 63. Didn't have much when they were little so I built their own little airplanes in which they had many adventures. Image Unavailable, Please Login
