For some reason here in the US a lot of garages are never painted. They are left looking like your pictures here. I can't understand why.
Being in the construction industry I can give you a reasonable explanation. Typically if a builder and/or developer is building a home on spec (speculation) they will not finish the garage - some even do not install the interior drywall - just the studs and insulation. All in an effort to save money. Obviously if someone is custom building a home, then the garage is part of the overall design effort and would be finished.
Most folks don't spend much time in their garages and would rather spend their money elsewhere. The cars in my garage are worth about as much as my house is, but my garage has alot of unfinished drywall and the parts that are painted haven't been touched in like 40 years. I'd love to have it all refinished nicely and looking like alot of the garages in this thread, but its just not a priority. It's not even the money, just the hassle of getting it done. Even if it was all done up nicely, this time of year with the salt and snow it would still be filthy. Not to mention that most people in my neighborhood at least use their garages as storage units and park their cars outside.
Crazy time consuming even for professionals. Several steps - you can't hurry paint. Don't forget it's very boring. Garage is "working" at this stage so easy to think "I'll do it later" Just my 2 cents.
My garage was painted when the house was built over 30 years ago. Was getting pretty yucky. We needed a new boiler and water heater. Took advantage of those items being removed (removed on a Friday and new items installed on Monday) to start the garage repaint. Did the garage in 4 sections over a year or so time frame. Took every thing down by section and painted then reinstalled. I’m talking shelves, cabinets moved, garage tracks and openers removed. Did it in four sections. Was well worth the effort in my opinion. Used Sherwin Williams high reflective white in semi gloss. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The garage has now received some cars... It may take some time to get a proper installation though... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Got a new house since the five car garage wasn’t getting it. I had to settle for a three car garage but the 60’x 100’ shop in back makes up for it. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

when you have something like that with those contents it doesn't matter if the floors are bare concrete and walls covered with spackle...that's awesome...
Thanks much The Hellcat is a few doors down- Suffice to say I spend more on storage spaces than my mortgage- Ha!
