The stewards who supported Masi's actions in the last lap of Abu Dhabi ... have they been fired as well? If the stewards haven't been fired, and if the unlapping rules and procedures actually get changed ... all is not what it seems.
How about cheating with a flex rear wing and only being investigated the next race when a normal wing was fitted.
Same could be said to you. Give it up man. 2021 is done and Max won by winning most races and passing Ham in the last race. Max is WDC of 2021 and let’s see who wins 2022.
Lol why did he wait till the last lap to pass? Masi broke the rules and decided the championship. Get over it.
No need to changes rules that were "broken" If unlapping rules and procedures get changed, this means that Verstappen is the legit, undisputed WDC ... under the rules that were in effect in 2021. I'm fine with it If we start retro-actively applying new rules to previous years, there's a lot of WDCs that will have an "asterisk" I'm betting that some rules applied inconsistently last year (gaining an advantage off-track, for example) will not get changed ... this is where the problem clearly points to the Race Director, rather than the rules themselves. Once again, the stewards who supported Masi's actions during the final laps at Abu Dhabi ... have they been fired? Why on earth not?
It'a a bad decision by the FIA credibility...it's a bad decision for Mercedes since Masi helped elton countless times. Let's hope the neu guy(s) is(are) less biased towards Elton and Toto.
I think that by the time he decided (over a 10 sec period) there wasn’t much they could do. It does appear the FIA is saying the RD didn’t follow procedures vs the rules were the culprit. (I think citing the rules about gaining an off-track advantage were well understood, until last season. Nobody knew what the rules were any longer because of inconsistent application). I think the stewards repudiating his decisions during the race would have made things even crazier (though it would have been the right thing to do)
Why change the unlapping rules themselves ... if the Race Director was the only culprit? Will the FIA forever remain silent, about the stewards who supported the "rogue director" on unalpping? Wonder what Masi's new salary will be, in his new position? I know, some of these questions will never be answered In any case ... Verstappen will remain the legit, undisputed champion of 2021 (under the rules of that year) I'm VERY fine with it.
Masi was a sloppy race director, but he's not gone because of that. The FIA showed incredible weakness in the aftermath of Abu Dhabi in folding to the pressure to "investigate" the end of the race, as if somehow the rules were breached in some significant way and something horribly unfair befell Hamilton. They let the British media and Mercedes bully them, and now every team will follow this precedent of smearing the sanctioning body unless their demands are met. If Mosley was in charge it would've been "There will be no investigation. We stand by our officials . The results are final. Any organization that doesn't like the it can feel free to sell their team and exit out of F1 competition"
Canada 2019 was ********. Totally unfair penalty for something tons of drivers do without a penalty. Now, imagine if Ferrari demanded the FIA "investigate" the end of the race, revoke the licenses of the stewards at the previous Canadian GP, and reinstate Vettel as the true winner of the race, or else Vettel might retire from the sport. The next days Autosport headline would read "Crack cocaine usage at Ferrari?" You watch, a dangerous precedent has been set. All teams smell blood in this movement from the FIA.
Simply an FIA owned mess top to bottom and it was all season. Period. Masi did little to clarify anything and moved the enforcement around to the confusion of the TEAMS AND DRIVERS and FANS. So he is fired. State why he shouldnt be? No one can at all. Max' title will have an absurdly large asterisk by it and so would have any other driver winning in this fashion. Its not about LH or Max at all. FIA all the way on this mess and the FIA let it boil ALL SEASON. Utterly preventable this was.
Not really. He was the best driver hands down all season, and had he not been punted by Mercedes drivers and lost a good 40 points because of it, Abu Dhabi wouldn't even been in play to begin with, so the right driver has the title, and people won't care in a year or two. Racing karma rained down on Mercedes in the last minutes in Abu Dhabi. Up to that point, officialdom and luck had gone almost entirely their way.
Lol, they were breached in a significant way. The procedures were very clear and the race director did not follow them, end of story
There's a perfectly reasonable, objective assessment here: Lots of fans complain about the last lap at Abu Dhabi. SOLUTION: change the rules, keep the Director (and the stewards who supported him). Lots of fans complain about the first lap at Abu Dhabi. SOLUTION: keep the rules, change the Director (haven't heard anything yet, about changes to off-track advantage rules). NET RESULT (from an investigation into Abu Dhabi): unlapping rules change, Race Director change. The real point being, lots of inconsistencies all year long (including the first lap of the last race)! How many people are replacing Masi ... two, or is it three? (not discounting your point about the FIA folding under pressure from Mercedes ... just offering an a-political perspective. Also not discounting the possibility that Masi simply quit.) No matter the only "asterisk" that could be reasonably assigned to MV as WDC, would be if we apply 2022 rules to his 2021 championship. NOBODY wants to go down that path ...
Did he? If he got dq for brake checking, dq for visiting mexico during brazil GP, his free win for quali at spa.. Thought you didnt win points for qualifying... All his driving in which had all the grid questioning the rules.. Ofc deserving, him n lh are, only one needed Masi help though.
Now that they’ve manipulated the FIA, wonder if Merc will present car tomorrow with number 1 on the nose?
