Seems Masi is being thrown under a bus. But I do like isolating the race director from the teams during the event.

I don't actually think Masi should be race director. He did a poor job.

What I have a problem with is that tons and tons of bad calls were made, and not just by Masi, but the stewarding booth as well. It was all tolerated, until Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes were crossed.

You just know that no matter who these officials are, the likelihood they'll already feel pressure to not penalize Hamilton any time soon. They know his history of crying that he's a victim to rile up his supporting fans and those in the media.

They made the announcement at the same time that Ferrari presented the new car. A nice way of keeping Massi's summary execution under the radar.

One of the new guys screwed it at the last race of DTM. Not a good omen.

He was clearly fired because of a media narrative, not whether it was right or wrong.

No different than being accused of sexual harassment and being innocent. Your employer doesn't care, you'll still be fired.

Nothing was 'won' today. A needed set of changes to avoid, hopefully in the future another major mess are to be put in place. Max won. Thats not ever been the issue. Lets see what structure the FIA puts in place and how it actually works eh?

Did the FIA also announce the punitive actions against Merc, HAM, etc. for missing the year-end ceremony?

    Great question.

Was Verstappen stripped of his title? If not, the FIA must have concluded that MV is the legit, undisputed WDC for 2021.

    I'm fine with it :)

Override what? I can't override it because I overrode it before. Only thing I can do is try to un override it and then re override it again.

I think most of us on this site (i.e. the Masi critics) have been looking for the FIA to admit that he screwed the pooch with his improvised rulings at the end of Abu Dhabi and his choppy decision making all season. I don't recall anyone saying Max should lose the title...he had nothing to do with Masi and did what any racing driver would do in that situation.

The event wasn't swept under the rug or justified. The FIA acknowledged the irregularities Masi employed in officiating the end of the race and subsequently removed him due to that and the myriad of confusion he caused all season.

I acknowledged and congratulated Max as champion for 2021 in December, as did many others.

So we all recognize Max Verstappen as the legit, undisputed WDC for 2021 ... under 2021 rules, of course!

Sounds like our work here is done :)

Max is WDC 2021 ...unfortunately it will forever be linked to Messy Masi's screw up's. *.

Max has 7 points on his licence carried over, not starting to expire until Sept 2022 R17 ,so the question is will he have to ease up on his questionable driving to avoid a race ban?

Well, actually Toto and Hamilton have said Max should lose the title. They made the preposterous suggestion that an entire lap of green flag racing just be forgotten, which is so far out there, I can't believe they suggested it.

I know it's been said before, but if Masi had just waived the backmarkers by the lap before, this would all be a nonissue. He made up for that error by using the authority in the regs that give him that ability, and even the stewards at the track agreed with that interpretation of the rules.

I'm not a fan of Masi, but they've set a dangerous precedent here. What's to stop Ferrari, Renault, or RBR demanding that an official be removed when they and their supporters believe an official ruling is grossly unfair to them?

Spa 08' and Abu Dhabi 21' are examples of how when the stewards cross Hamilton and cost him something big, there's hell to pay, and those officials are likely to lose their roles.

Some people feel sorry for Masi ?

The guy brought the scandal on himself with poor decision making ALL year, ending up in a total fiasco at the last race.

Thrown under the bus? Certainly not! He is completely incompetent and unfit to fulfil the important role of F1 race director.
