is he a prima donna, being used, or just being opportunistic?

he, or those around him, played a cultural/political opportunity to perfection...went from a garbage ride and stalled career to a great ride with major sponsors, manufacturer alliance and one of the world's most famous athletes as a business partner.

He started acting like that after he would get pissed and refuse to do interviews after a wreck or something. That's when I started not liking him. His antics after that didn't help.

I used to like him. Then he essentially called the fanbase racist and I was out on him. I'd go further but this ain't P&R.

But it -is- NASCAR, and everyone gets to choose their white hats and black hats in this rodeo. I was completely neutral on the winning rookie, but watching him squeeze a teammate to win the race raised him in my eyes.

Bubber did well ….stayed out of trouble and was in the right place at the right time.

But nobody was going to deny Cindric yesterday. Happy birthday, Captain!

OK, how effective is advertising in NASCAR? Did anyone notice Motorsport Games was main sponsor advertising their Ignition game on B. J. McLeod's #78? I didn't. :)

We had the Miami Concours on Sunday so missed most/all of the 500.

Got home, turned it on. Red flag session. Cars sitting on track while a mess was being cleaned
up. Turned it off. Came back half an hour later, cars still sitting on track in another red flag
    session.

    Gave up.

Surely, the NASCAR nonsense machine was in full overdrive Sunday. No need to watch
    the calamity.

Seems I’m going to the Ally 400 in Nashville this weekend (invited by a sponsor). I have very little idea what a NASCAR event looks like. I might even get a tour of the pit lane and garage area on Sunday pre-race. Any pointers on what to look for?

Wow, I was surprised to hear this. Chicago does have a great downtown wich in general is pretty safe. Just don't wander out of the downtown area to far, especially south :)

my understanding is Chicagoland Speedway (Joliet) is/will be redeveloped into an industrial park?

Thats the rumor. The speedway is also very close to the Autobahn race track, maybe 2 miles away. I much prefer Road America to the speedway and the possible downtown event. On the bright side an event downtown will be a spectacle running thru Grant Park. Hopefully Chicago will have a new mayor before this event happens.

Well, it's an irace. I think it happened last year. What's curious is that the rumor of a real race in downtown Chicago has surfaced just before the NASCAR race at Road America. Some think RA will be replaced by downtown Chicago.....where does the rumor come from? It seems impolitic to announce a Chicago race anytime close to the RA race.....

I find it nearly impossible to believe Chicago would approve a street race for NASCAR

this has been rumored before (CART/Indycar) many years ago and went nowhere, which led to Ganassi building that track near the horse track in Cicero that went bust in a couple of years.

I agree, plus ICE racing is so dirty  Desperation and the need for more revenue might allow it now, maybe. We know who runs the city and state now so who knows. Maybe they would allow a Formula E street race like NYC that no one will attend other than the people who live there instead.

I didn't realize SMI sold off most of what was parking for the track to warehouse developers. (kinda amazed the facility survived at all)

I was talking with someone at the race that said they still own a lot of the land there for expansion if they’re able to build up a need for it.

This was my first ever visit to a NASCAR event. I was impressed by the packed campgrounds - and their ability to hunker down during the thunderstorms.
