Amazing to have a race at St. Pete with only one caution, and 24 of 26 starters still running at the finish. The race was decided more by strategy than by on-track action, which is not unusual.

Thanks great idea, I have computer geek friends in Fort Lauderdale, France and the UK I can ask.
I have had no TV by choice for six years now but have very fast internet here.

Canal Plus, a pay per view channel has the exclusive rights here now.

McLaughlin very impressive, Romain did well right behind Colton.
    Helio not so good.
    Can't wait for Barber:)!

MSR was strong in practice, OK in qualifying and nowhere in the race (14th and 15th for Helio and Simon). strange

    Texas!
Is Ryan Hunter Ray still in the game? He was my instructor at the first ever Ferrari Policta in 2005.

No, he was persuaded to retire. Romain Grosjean is driving his old ride.

and that is what I love about Indycar....you just never know and can really predict. Always something exciting and if you go to a race the pits, cars, team and drivers are pretty accessible and the tickets and passes are very affordable.

I just tuned in. How are they on lap 60 after about 10 minutes of racing? Did the race start earlier than the 1PM announced time?

Had the same problem. DVR schedule said 12:00 (CT), race started a half hour earlier.

Didn't notice, as I was following up the F1 race.

But hey, it's just an oval. :p

Luckily I taped the 30-minute Pre-Race show starting at 12:30pm EST (i.e. instead of starting the race at the announced 1pm EST, the green flag flew at 12:40pm EST).

If you want to see Alexander Rossi's dramas early in the race, the full race broadcast should be archived on Peacock.

That was another awesome race. Texas always produced drama and action. Thankfully I think there were less wrecks than previously, although the five car one was bad. Running earlier in year, and earlier in the day to keep track temps lower, and the extra running they put on the higher line certainly helped. The second lane was definitely easier to use than the last few years since that chemical for the NASCAR racers was put down. There were some epic out lap passes where people were clenching their tuchus and relying on the extra down force from the extra speed, plus the new tires to get around the outside. Very cool stuff.

Lesson learned by McLaughlin there on late race oval passes. The more experienced Newgarden nailed it there.
Andretti at sea again, they need to concentrate on some basics and not be distracted by the shiny lights of F1
Jimmie Johnson showing some of the naysayers after last year who were writing him off.
I wish Ferrari had done and Indy car engine instead of WEC, because this is some of the best racing out there.

I always wondered why Jimmie Johnson avoided the ovals and only did the road courses last year. I always figured he'd do better on oval tracks, especially those he was familiar with, once he got used to the IndyCar's much higher speed, and he proved it yesterday. He had over twice as many prior laps done at Texas than anyone else in the field! I think he should "do an Ed Carpenter" and just do the oval tracks.

No, he should continue with the whole series. My hope is this result will give him the confidence to push more on the road and street circuits. Anyway, he has the potential to have a marvelous Indianapolis 500.

I hope this was the "aha" moment for him. I guess we'll find out at Long Beach

and yes....Indy is going to be interesting.

I think honestly he didn't do the ovals last year due to safety considerations. He wanted to get a feel for the cars in the relatively safer road and street course environment. Don't forget it was only four years ago that Robert Wicken's was (semi) paralyzed with a broken back at Pocono in a car owned by Sam Schmidt who himself was paralyzed (quadriplegic) in an Indy car oval test. Stock cars have a lot more around them to deform slowly to protect the meat sack steering wheel to seat back spacer. Romain Grosjean did the same thing when joining Indy car from F1 last year as well. First year road and street course only before taking on the ovals this year. Racing is dangerous. Racing on ovals more so. Racing on ovals in an open wheel car, even with a Halo and Aeroscreen, is magnitudes more so again. Beyond the history of the Indy 500, we would never start racing open wheel cars on ovals today, it wouldn't surprise me if Indy was the only open wheel oval left in a few years.

Roger P has already done away with the Freedom 100 Indy Lights race after he took over control of the series and track. No official reason given, but I've read and listened to a lot of comments suggesting that the real reason was the risk of injury or death to one of the lights drivers. My supposition based on that is; it's bad enough if a driver is badly hurt of killed in THE 500, but at least they were there, in the big ring, taking part in what is arguably the biggest and most famous race in the world. But it's another thing altogether if it happens to a young 'kid' in the feeder series that has been shaky on numbers for over a decade now.
