As Doug Nye aptly baptized it the GTOrrible:D
One of my absolute favourite research articles, CF cover story Cavallino issue 112, in 1999.

Apart of the research the big day was when I went to deepest Yorkshire to interview Neil Corner and shoot the car, 246 F1 0007 which was none other than the very last front engined F1 car to win a GP AND Phil Hill's first GP win on the same occasion: The 1960 Italian GP. Ferrari then installed a Testarossa V12 in it for Pat Hoare in New Zealand for the local championship. After he won it and the car became obsolete, with zero buyers, it became this wild GTOesque road car....
Fastest thing on the road worlwide...and ugliest:eek:.

Years later Neil Corner bought the running chassis out of New Zealand, left the GTO ish body there with then owner Logan Fow, had the car restored in the UK and went on to win countless vintage races in it.

So an incredible story and on top of that one magic day in May of 1998 Neil Corner picked me up at Darlington train station in his 550 Maranello, drove flat out for the one hour journey home on the Moors, fabulous roads, barely missing stray sheep (!!), and of course I was wide eyed in the left seat, always takes some readjustment when visiting the UK.
Then, after an incredible day at his Manor house -too long to recount see article- he said Marc put your things in the Short Wheel Base, we'll use that to get you back to the station...and off we went in his Robbin's egg blue 250SWB, sideways everywhere, and then 120mph on the motorway: brilliant, one of my best ever car and article experiences!

No, no this was 246 Dino F1 chassis 0007. CF my Cavallino magazine cover story issue 112.
The 375 was a car Pat Hoare had before that. See my post above.

The GTOrrible was nicknamed Charlotte in New Zealand, it was used in land speed records attemtps, fishing and caving trips by Logan Fow and his wife, it must have been pretty tight inside because after all it was still an F1 chassis underneath.
None less than Jackie Stewart drove it for a few exploratory laps at Wigram when Pat Hoare still owned it.

What happened to the GTOish body once abandoned when the rolling chassis had been bought by Neil Corner and taken to England?

    It became a chicken shed:p.

Here various photos of Charlotte through its few years of existence in New Zealand...and to think that the last front engined GP winner of all time was under there....!

Actually it was the Porsche 904 'sugar scoop' roof that was the 1968 Corvette inspiration along with the 1965 Mako Shark show car. Point taken though with some similar design details.
The polished rocker panel reminds me of 0671SA...

The 1957 AMA Racing Ban meant you would not even see any Chevrolet engineers at a race track... ;)

Actually, the Chevrolet engineers never left. They continued to attend the races. However, they were not "working', they were just there on "vacation".

About 1963. Old race cars were just old race cars then, especially if they didn't fit in to any current race category. According to local motoring writer and historian Allan Dick, "After 2 seasons Hoare was going to buy a Shark Nose Ferrari 156 F1 car and power it with a 2.3 litre V6 engine. The deal was done, but he couldn’t sell this car and eventually converted it into an awful looking road going GT’."

Thanks for the mention, I was able to save the photos.

hilarious to read: "The body only, is now offered for sale on behalf of the owner who has treasured it for the last 40 years." When it was in fact used as a chicken shed as shown in a couple of the photos I posted:)

When I was at Motorcar Gallery I handled that sale on the phone in 2003 or 2004 I think with our dear late friend Adrian Hamilton. When time came to negotiate he asked with his bespoke accent: "What are the rules of engagement" as was said before duels long ago:D. It was then cut in the UK....

IIRC it is a car that Ed Waterman had sourced out of Venezuela. These cars do travel like courtesans....
