GM was an associate sponsor, along with half a dozen other brands (NOT Mercedes!), so I don’t think that was it.

my guess is Hagerty wants to be presenting sponsor since it’s their show now, maybe that ruffled Mercedes’ feathers?

at any rate there were other Daytona, Sebring and LeMans winning cars in the show that were more deserving IMO.

Looks like the new ownership is making some strategic moves. Attempt to woo HY to a new auction company perhaps?

The 250 TR59 (0766) not showing was not the fault of the owner but the fault of Hagerty. Hagerty asked the owner to bring 0812 for the Sebring class but it is in Italy getting classiche certified so he couldn’t bring it but offered to bring 0766TR instead. Hagerty never responded to him so he assumed he they didn’t want him to bring it therefore he didn’t.

Imagine that! Were Hagerty also still under the impression that 0812 was the 1963 Sebring winner or the runner up?

Lots of empty grass and yet the cars that were there were crammed together- the RR Ghost section & American Classics 1920-1930 areas in particular.

how come there are no tables to eat the $15 hamburger at?

Besides the already much discussed comp replica in Amelia Island here's another poor thing, called Maggiore Restomod, seen Sunday at Amelia Island.
What a shame that a renowned Concours such as Amelia Island under new ownership is going into the wrong direction.
Original concours founder Bill Warner built up a first class top concours over 25 years with an excellent reputation and now the new owners seem to ruin it within a few minutes. At least, they don't seem to care.

Well, if they offered tables they would charge $ 50 for the burger.
These days it is all about revenue. Classic cars are just an annoying side dish.

I was wondering what that abomination was.

to be fair, it was part of the vendor display for Supercar Rooms in Miami, not an entrant.

Imagine such a vendor on the field at Pebble Beach.........
Is that really the direction classic car enthusiasts wanna go?
And people pay for the show ticket and then have to see such crap? Yes, I know, nobody forces you to look at a restomod, you can easily turn your head into another direction, only to see another replica or fake.......
Is the classic car world really already so degenerated? What a tragedy.

I’m sorry to say but this is nothing new or recent.
Based on my personal observations during my 4+ decades in this hobby of antique/classic/old/vintage cars, vast majority (99% ?) of people attending car shows, even if the show is considered highly regarded concours event, don’t care nor has ever cared about whether the car on display are authentic or correct.
While the percentage among real(?) antique/classic car enthusiasts might be slightly lower (maybe 90% ?), most are and have always been just attracted to & enamored by the latest and greatest shiny object in front of them regardless of what it is, how it is done or presented, etc…
And all this ^^ applies even (or perhaps more so) to people on internet forums, including this one.

If event organizers tried to accommodate only what you (or I)* or other “extremist” prefer to experience or see, the events would’ve failed long ago and if tfounders of the events like Amelia, Cavallino, etc didn’t expect or want theirs to evolve(?) to something else, they probably wouldn’t have sold them to entities that will likely make that happen.

P.S. I’ve only attended and presented a (client’s) car (my restoration) at Amelia once, nearly 15 years ago and while I didn’t get a chance to see all entries, I did saw at least two far less than authentic ones (“fakes” ?). One with amazingly elaborate (fantasy) “story” was displayed right next to ours and it even won FiC, while ours received SiC. I guess the judges at that day swallowed the ”story”, hook, line and sinker.

    * Guys like you (or me) are in a very, very small minority group. I’m probably even in a smaller group, as my enthusiasm and interest is focused only on cars old enough to feature carburetors.

the sad part is - if we do not require the correct vetting by the concourses and/or disclosure by the owners at major shows then, as sated before in this thread, the fake will become real. What happens when the true historians and folks with hands on experience pass. Can you imagine for a moment the FIVA award for the most well preserved vehicle, at a serious and prominence building concourse such as this, being awarded to a well know fake/body switched vehicle that doesn't even have all the correct parts simply because it was never vetted?

This real fake shown at Amelia as below already has papers from FIVA identifying it as Ferrari 0846.

FIVA paperwork and passes are absolutely useless and mean zero. A FIVA passport is basically a TOTAL JOKE.
Here in Switzerland I am regularly contacted by so-called (local) FIVA stewards who have NO clue about classic Ferraris. Some of these people don't even know where to find a chassis number on a frame.

Fakes that have been around for so long that they have become accepted as genuine(as with fine art). Keep repeating the same lie over and over and eventually people start to believe it.

I spoke to somebody who was at Amelia at the weekend who said that the majority of people viewing Glickenhaus's fake had no clue of its real origins and correct identity and thought it to be the real thing.
