Since Onofrio Tirisi is my dealer I’m sure it can be done here as well. I’ll ask.

    Great thread.

Maybe. They have that crazy huge facility. Or maybe they will send it up to NJ.

There must not be many (any?) crashed cars with painted shields because nobody I asked knew for 100% sure and I've now covered eight Ferrari dealerships (20% of the dealerships in the country) with my inquires.

Best course of action - don't crash.

Just got word from my salesman that mine arrived in NJ on Monday. He waited until today to call me because he was hoping it would be on a truck to Chicago. Sadly, it hasn't been released yet.

Anyone have opinions on ceramic coating? The dealership just lost their Ferrari approved tech and are scrambling to find someone else to do it. My understanding is that it corrects any flaws and deepens the color of the paint and is especially effective on dark colors like TDF Bleu. Anyone care to opine?

    Paint correction and protection ?
A lot of opinions on that.

I paint correct, wrap and ceramic over. Now what products ? That’s a whole other topic…

Well said…lots of options. I had Ferrari do my f12, sf, Roma and GTS and all turned out great. They bring a crew into FoSV. Other F cars I have owned and own I did outside of the dealership and I much prefer the work Ferrari did. With that said, I don’t think they go to the same level of pain correction at the dealer but the wrap was cleaner/tighter. It’s an amazing car and I am sure you will love. One option I have done as of late is to use the light blue tint on the glass. It’s not really noticeable from an aesthetics perspective but has really helped on heat and clarity. Enjoy!

    Congrats!
I’ve always had them do a “correction” whatever the hell that means and put on a 5-year Ceramic Pro coating (in addition to PPF on front of car).

No idea of the name of the ship but he did say that he has several other customers with cars on ships that didn't arrive. I guess I got lucky!

Consider sending your car to Esoteric in Ohio. They do an excellent job. Which Chicago dealer? I know a F8 owner at LF is sending his car to Esoteric.

Pardon if I make any mistakes but the way modern cars are painted at the factory- its a primer, then a very thin layer of color which due to the process usually doesnt sit perfectly flat, instead its kind of like a golf ball with dimples, then theres the clear coat- which is the protection and also what gives the paint its shine. When you make a car all nice and shiny, its really the clear coat which you are affecting. Anyway, since the paint isnt perfectly flat to the surface, and the clear coat sits on top, the clear coat takes on this golf ball like dimple affect- if you move your head back and forth and look at most modern car paint you will see it has these dimples, people call it “orange peel” because it looks like that.

Then there are the scratches that the factory puts into the clear coat when they are detailing the car on the way out the door. I think they’d be better off not doing it at all, but they do it and I often think their machine is nick named the swirl-o-matic.

Think of a range of hills and valleys. The orange peel you cant make this go away in the paint layer, but if you are extra careful, you can take down the clear coat to about where the valleys are- thus- its all at the same layer and thus it is corrected. The clear coat is the thickest part of the paint - but- its still pretty thin so this is for experienced hands only.

Most scratches are also remedied with this process.

I used to be not bothered by orange peel, I just looked at it as part of a modern paint job, but over the past few years its started bothering me more. I always have my detailer do the correction etc.

The ceramic is nice to have - think of it as a kind of super wax- it makes it more glossy and gives more protection- its especially useful on the film.

992 GT3 at my shop. Please notice how the ppf hides the sanded dullness of the paint. Makes you wonder if a paint correction is necessary when you ppf.

Happy day to hear my 812 GTS is in order status 40. What is everyone’s experience with timeline to delivery with the various statuses. My dealer is guessing Q3 delivery.

If they are telling you status 40 and Q3 then I must be further behind than I was told.

    Congrats.

I found out my car was in the paint stage (one of the earlier stages) on Nov 1. It was on a ship to New Jersey on 12/21 and unloaded on 2/21.

Thanks! That sounds about right with the slow shipping and port issues.

I did you still end up with TDF Blue and Cuoio?

Sorry for the hopefully briefed interruption to this thread. At the time this reply was sent I debated sending a not so Nice reply back or nothing at all and not get into a knock down. Opted for nothing at all but as time has gone on I have been thinking more about it when I see u-boat post. I tend to not get wrapped up into things like this and I move on but this one has bothered me. Time gave me a moment to think about how my comment could have come across and touched a nerve. My point in the post was simply that I thought it was really odd Ferrari would except a ton of orders without a deposit to later learn they were bogus and cancelled. I still contend it’s super odd as Ferrari doesn’t do a lot of anything and the circumstances are weird…but weird stuff happens all the time. Point being, I was not meaning to call you out and certainly wasn’t meaning to infer or call you a liar. End of the day, this world is pretty f’d right now and social platforms tend to make the bad even worse. I have added more to my profile to be called out if needed and to be more identifiable…maybe dumb but maybe it will make me think more about my post before I write something that could potentially upset someone else. I come to this forum to have fun as i love the brand and the cars. As many of you, I deal with plenty of bs elsewhere and the last place I want and need to get into mud sling is here. From what I have seen in your post you seem like a good person u-boat, I actually think we look at things similarly in some instances and would bet our taste are more in line than not. End or the day, my apologies to you for the way that was written and if you felt I was calling you out. On a side, I did have a Cali (first new Ferrari and a T) and we can hash that out in the future ;). Ok, sorry to the rest for the long post but wanted to clear the air on my side. No need to reply…back to the topic at hand.

So, ok, this is new for me. I actually received a call last week that my GTS will be here 6 months EARLIER than scheduled. Not 'weeks', but 'months'! I'm not sure exactly why this is. If I check out all the tailored spec'ed F's here I guess it could be because I'm just cheap with my standard colors and options. Ordered at the end of November last year with expected delivery in November of this year (back than I already thought that's pretty quick). They now guess it will be ready for delivery in May. As in: before the summer! Really looking forward to that now! Today received "stage 30". If I'm correct that's paint, right? Time to start saving money a bit quicker o_O

Don't get me wrong, my upcoming summer holiday just became a real holiday! So I'm definitely not complaining, but I don't get it and was kind of lost for words. Plus I wanted to compliment them on doing a great job so far .
