Regarding #0844's 1966 racing history, as stated in the article: "It competed at Sebring, the Targa Florio, and at Le Mans in ’66....", what about Monza and Spa, which #0844 is stated to have won in 1966, which I'd have also have said that were its most significant races?

    Hi,

I fully agree, but would just like to point out that maybe they think their target audience might not know about Spa and Monza! ;)

    Cheers!

I guess it's safe to say "the 330 Can-Am is dead, long live the 412P" :)

I dunno, reading the article they hand hammered the body made in the UK, corrected a few things "using outside vendors", but the only mention of the engine is that it was "numbers matching"....

So it's still the Can Am displacement, or did I miss a rebuild in the UK???

I kind of "quit watching" when they tossed the Can Am body aside....it's lovely now of course.....

Great example why I don’t waste time reading magazines.
Talk about a shallow fluff piece with very little, if any, substance and matching pictorial.
About as interesting and revealing as weather forecast from a politician.

This is why your knowledge may be lacking and where you miss developments.

From this short article a very significant fact was discovered, which was that #0844 has been Ferrari Classiche Certified as a P3/412 P.

You are mixing this car up with others.

The body was not made in the UK.

P3/412 P 0844 never had the 330 4 litre displacement enlarged to 350/4.2 litres when it was converted to a 330 Can Am (or 412 P Can Am), as was the case with 330 P4s 0858 and 0860 when they were converted to 350 Can Ams.

Significant how or to whom ?
It’s not my car nor will I ever own it or any other P cars, not my cup of tea.
If I was asked to work on one, I probably would, but if Ferrari certified any as a space shuttle or garden pottery, I wouldn’t loose any sleep over that “fact”.
Besides, if the owner of 0844 is happy with the certificate, …

It was ready in November 21 for the Finali Mondali and the showcase for the Daytona SP3 Icona.

Here's a good summary of what we at Symbolic Motor Car Company did in-house to 0844 in San Diego, California USA, back in the late-1990s. Painstaking efforts were made to retain as much of the original coachwork as possible when returning it to its original Berlinetta configuration, etc. Admittedly, the aluminum which was re-sectioned was shaped using the English wheel method (rather than with a hammer over a wooden buck).

When we took 0844 (together with 250 GT Sperimentale #2643 GT) to the 50 Anni celebrations in Rome and Maranello (1997), it was still in its open Can-Am configuration.

When Ferrari restored 0844, I wonder if there was perhaps a missed opportunity to restore it as the Works 330 P3, in which form it won 2 major races, Monza and Spa in 1966, rather than the Concessionaires spec P3/412P, in which form its best result was at Daytona 1967. Surely worth more too in a Works spec rather than a Customer spec and would be unique as a 330 P3?
