Any one had or have this?

2003 360 fitted with Tubi exhaust and Gruppe m airbox.
The car runs great and pulls hard through the rev range exept when engine is under no load ie neutral or clutch in.
When you blip the throttle you can hear the air being sucked in but the engine hesitates for a short while. Almost as if it is not getting fuel.
Those of us who are old enough to remember playing with carbs will liken this to an accelorator pump going bad and giving a weak mixture until the fuel catches up with the air.
Thoughts in any direction would be appreciated.

Do I understand correctly that it does not do it under load?

If it is a six speed does it do it when you are blipping the throttle bad enough to cause you rev or timing problems when downshifting.

I have this same characteristic on my 2008 F430 with stock exhaust. If you mash the accelerator to the floor, you hear a whoosh of air sound and then it revs versus there being an immediate revving of the engine.

Is this normal with a stock exhaust???

Has anybody found any more info on this?

My car was running fine earlier today, until I spun out and accidentally ran the wheels in reverse, stalling the engine. I’m used to pushing the clutch in in a situation like that, but I’m still getting used to the F1 gearbox.

After that, car immediately started running exactly as described in these few posts. Lots of hesitation when blipping on downshifts or revving under no load.

    Update:

I remember that I had this identical issue in my Maserati Coupe, and found a very strange fix to it. Symptoms were exactly as described in this thread, in addition to the “E” light on the dash for the climate control system. I started by replacing the MAF sensor. Didn’t change anything.

After a lot of research, I found that the E light is commonly caused by the ambient temperature sensor failing. This sensor is on the bottom of the left hand mirror. The 360 uses the same part. I think I replaced that part and still didn’t change anything.

Eventually I removed the center console trim piece with the HVAC controls on it. I realized that the last time I had removed it, I either forgot to connect one of the connectors on the back, or maybe it had fallen off.

I reconnected that part, the E light went away, and the throttle response issue was fixed.

Strange, but apparently the ambient temperature reading on the exterior mirror is factored in when calculating the fuel map. Engine runs rough when that reading is absent or inaccurate.
