I'm looking for the F1 schedule that syncs with my phone. Did it the past 2 seasons, but can't find it for 2022.

I understand they consider it being part of the mandatory lateral crash structure.

They have found a loophole and interpreted the rules to their advantage.

F1 teams push the limits on development within the rules. This cannot be news................

That definitely can't be a mirror mounting: its aero functions are obvious.

I don't know if the rules about the bodywork have something against it. If they don't have, then it's OK for me.

It looks like the embryo of the lateral crash structure, and satisfy the legal requirement for that purpose according to the FIA.

Then, it is streamlined to be more aerodynamic.

Finally it is used to hold the mirror in a highly unconventional fashion to say the least.

It will inevitably upset the purists who will try to have it banned, saying to themselves: "Why didn't I think of that?"

Probably the rulemakers never imagined a designer could do away with the sidepods in such manner.

That's the "housing" for the proximity sensor that alerts that someone is about to overtake you in order to avoid a collision.
So basically, it is a safety device, not aero.

Is this a joke? So now we have "lane departure" nanny devices in F1 race cars to "warn" the drivers there are other cars nearby? That's what the mirrors are for. That's what the blue flags are for. If a driver isn't paying attention to those, having a blinking light on his steering wheel isn't going to help.

It was a joke.... Even as a "support" for the mirror, that is a big stretch. You can support the mirror with a lot less.

FIA helped MB with DAS -they will help them with mirrors, pods, etc. Crazy the length they will go

Ferrari does it-against the spirit of the rules! MB does it-visionary and innovative!

I'm really not surprised. I'm sure MB has 2 sets of books for costs incurred also....

This is always one of the key issues when a #2 driver fails to match the #1 and it gets lost at the end of the day.
In a year nobody will remember this fact, but people will remember that qualifying/race was not up to par.

Facts. When there is only one update available to one car, it has to go to someone. The likes of Lewis, Max, Schumacher, Senna, etc are the ones that get it. I thought it was funny when Lance Stroll got a big update over Vettel. Remember when Schumacher got the F2002 while Ruben's had to drive the F2001?

The bodywork around the safety structure on the Merc should be mandated to be simply cylindrical in shape and not a wing shape profile.

A cylinder is an aerodynamic shape too, just not an efficient one. ;)

All this about the mirrors seems ridiculous given every little vane and slot on the barge boards are aerodynamic devices.
