Introducing my 458 Speciale 100,000 Mile or Bust build!

Hey everyone! Long time lurker, new member of the Ferrari community. I live in the Raleigh, NC area and am actively building a social and professional space for car enthusiasts here.

I recently purchased one of my grail cars: a '15 Ferrari 458 Speciale in Rosso Corsa with a NART Blue racing stripe. I intentionally bought one that wasn't super low miles (8k at purchase) because this is going to be my "forever Ferrari," daily driven with a goal to put 100,000 miles on her one day. I'm going to track her at VIR and take her on Crown Rally and every cruise I can fit into my schedule!

I'd love feedback from you all based on your experience. This community has already such extremely helpful for me just by reviewing previous threads! Here's my build plan so far
    - IPE Titanium Exhaust System
    - IPE Decat
    - IPE Sport Manifolds
    - M-Engineering Stage 1 Tune
    - Window tint

I'm undecided if I want to add any carbon fiber accents. I'm obviously keeping her N/A. I can't imagine doing much to this car. She's already incredible and I'm getting so much enjoyment out of driving her (I put 80 miles on her this morning just in a cruise!)

Beautiful car. I will definitely see you at VIR in my Rosso Scuderia 458 Italia as VIR is also my local track. For many of the HPDE track days, I have never seen another Ferrari so will be great to see you out there.

Which VIR track days this year are you planning on?

Beautiful looking ride! I was looking at this car as well a few months ago. Sounds like with your mods and plans to daily it that there is no advice to give.

I love the CF vents and side nolders on mine. Really like that look.

Enjoy and drive safe out there!

Congrats, Speciale is truly one of a kind.
All mods on your list are nice! Although, I personally might reconsider decat if the car is going to be daily driven. Gas fumes and ultra loudness for 100k miles would be excessive for me. Maybe 200 or even 100 cell sport cats?

^^^^ exactly. The only issue is your exhaust may be a bit too loud for you to put on 100K miles. I'd likely just keep it OEM on the exhaust side, or just the rear section, but not the cats.

A way to get an awesome infotainment would be cool - or just more reliable bluetooth options from the phone.

Flu and R6 beat me to it, but I was going to say iPE is great but that and decat and your ears will bleed. I broke down and put cats back on my 355 because I was getting tinnitus from driving it.

This is going to be super exciting to follow! Have you got an Instagram going?

As for my 2 cents: avoid IPE/Armytrix etc - go for a German designed/manufactured brand like Capristo or Novitec, especially if you're going to put so many miles on her!

Also you've been given some great advice re: sports cats over decats. If she's going to be a weekend warrior then decats would be fine, they sound amazing...however, if you're going to DD the car then it'll be a bit much. If decats are an 11/10 then 100-cell are a 9/10 and 200-cell are an 8/10.

Take from that what you will, and good for you for actually using your car as a car. Seriously impressive stuff :)

I am happy with my decated Speciale. I prefer the sound of Inconel to Titanium, but to each their own. The sound is the only flaw I've found in my Speciale, other than how expensive it is! I'm putting about 4k miles a year on mine, so 100k is going to take quite a while to get to.

    Two quick points...
#1. The Speciale needs a different tune than that of an Italia if you decat and don't want a CEL. The secondary air injection is different.
#2. If you get an X-pipe, which I wholeheartedly endorse, you are going to have pipes much closer to the rear diffuser and you are going to need to take heat management very seriously.

Hey! Can't wait to meet you out there! Ideally I'll be at all the member days plus some special events like CLT Speed and Ferrari events. My only hangup is with scheduling conflicts associated with building my business. I should be able to make the Ferrari trackday in April and possibly the VIR Member Day in late April!

That's a good point. I've got a couple decated cars and they are LOUD. I'm going to talk to IPE today about the exhaust and see what feedback they've received from customers about this.

Hey! I appreciate the feedback. Does Capristo make any titanium exhaust sets? I haven't been able to find one. I'll check out Novitec, but titanium is a must to me given both the sound quality and weight loss.

I think you all are onto something with the 100-cell cats. I think that's the way I'll go.

Excited to start posting pics and videos!

    My pleasure!

So Capristo's exhausts are made from Stainless Steel 309 / 1.4828 - they don't offer any Titanium solutions.
I'm not sure of exactly what grade of Stainless Novitec uses, but I'm fairly sure their Inconel is Inconel 625.

The analogy I always use for the Titanium / Inconel debate is this:

When the US built the X-15 they needed a metal which could withstand temperatures from air resistance at Mach 6, Inconel was their choice.
When they built the SR-71 they needed a metal that could withstand temperatures from air resistance at Mach 3.2, Titanium was their choice.

Looking forward to seeing how this progresses!

I’ll be at VIR for the April 11-12 FCA event. Will see you out there! If you see me, do swing by and say hello!

My 458 is easily identifiable by the small carbon lip on the rear deck.
