It’s looking stunning Paul! Are those window trim pieces aluminium? You say they were anodized which suggests aluminium.

Yes they are anodized aluminum from the factory including the door frames. They were all painted gloss black when the car arrived which was a challenge to remove. Thankfully they didn't sand them before paint or it would've been almost impossible to undo.

How did you remove the paint? I have the same issue on my ‘79 928 project that is next in line after completing my GT4.

Chemical paint stripper but the stripper you get now isn't as good as what it used to be so it takes longer. I gauge the quality of a stripper (paint) by how much it hurts when I get it on my skin. The new stuff might as well be hand lotion.

Here's an update on the car, sorry I didn't update sooner I've just had a lot on my plate with deadlines!

The engine needed a cleanup and major. I took the engine off the box and replaced the front cam drive bearings, seals etc. Cleaned it up best I could as an assembled engine as it didn't need rebuilding and had good leak down numbers.

The engine bay has been tidied up, the fuel tanks had to be removed due to a lot of sediment and rust in the system so they got a paint job after flushing them out. The fuel pick up was rotten, the screen was missing and the sending unit was rusty which all together fed debris through the fuel pump. The pump ended up quitting right on my hoist so we replaced that and the fuel filter of course.

Once the Cosmoline was removed with mineral spirits it was black under it. I was expecting silver like the vertical cable channel on the firewall, maybe being a Euro car thats how they were?

There were a lot of "while we're here" repairs such as the fuel system, door speakers, repairing wiring, switching back to the proper euro fuel filter, the rims, all the trim had been painted over which was difficult to undo, we had to make the muffler hangers look nice as they're visible so they came apart and went in a batch of plating.

The way your cars turn out is just absolutely incredible, Paul - like they're fresh off a showroom floor!

Thanks so much for sharing the journey these cars (and you!) go through - it puts a big smile on my face to know that there are people like you, and the owners who commission you, who are willing to put the time, effort and resources into making these special cars last another 40 years.
