I was out waxing the car yesterday on the driveway when 6 kids about 14 years old rode by on their bikes. I heard they were coming because one screamed out “Ferrari “!!! They came over to check out the car and I gave them a full tutorial. I was pleasantly shocked when I was explaining that it’s not the fastest car on the road as even Tesla is faster off the line. The response was “Who cares, electric cars make no sound, The sound is most important.” So we as owners can speculate all day long what will be a collector but it’s the next generation who will decide and they just spoke.
I’m not saying these cars are going to be worth millions but at the very least they can be considered savings accounts with an annual fee. So buy it, put it in race mode, and ease the RPM’s up over 3K to open the pipes. Your ears will tell your brain that you made the right decision and the ability of the car to hold it’s value will confirm it.

I work on domestic cars all day everyday for a living and absolutely hate the souless electric offerings from pretty much everyone. Is it the future ? Absolutely but my 458 gives me more satisfaction than any friggin hybrid or full electric on the planet . Tesla is definitely faster and you can control it with your cell phone but who cares. Give me my 9k screaming gas guzzling Ferrari !!!!!

No it sure didn't but I ask myself, who in their right mind would listen to that in the first place and act on that recommendation. Its like listening to a stockbroker for stock ideas, ha ha

Anyone have thoughts on why the 458 is holding strong between $280-310k. It’s predecessors 360 and f430 are in the 100s. Anyone have ideas on when the 458 will nose dive in terms of depreciation? Or does it have a chance to maintain prices given the EU’s goal of only electric cars by 2030 and Ferrari now making a V6. Also, does the 458 being the last NA Ferrari made help hold prices, or is that only among the purists out there?

    Curious everyone’s thoughts

Hi Connor- Welcome to FChat :)

Do a forum search and you will find countless threads on this subject. My thoughts FWIW:

    Facts:
    Last NA mid-engine production Ferrari
    Last Pininfarina-designed mid-engine production Ferrari

    Opinions:
Some think the best-sounding V8 Ferrari since F355
Some think cleanest and best looking Mid-engine Ferrari since 355

458s are crazy money right now- most feel they will level out and perhaps drop back to sanity but will hold their value well and always be sought after.

    Cheers and again, welcome

Check out the values of 488s too. Look at the pre owned at Ferrari Newport Beach.

I always go to “what are the alternatives”? A F8 which doesn’t have the sound and is $150k more if you can find one? A McLaren with no sound and no interior? The 296 in a couple of years and EV?

The truth of the matter is that electric is more or equal to as pollutive to the environment as is petrochemicals....ie...where do those dead batteries wind up going as an example not to mention the footprint they leave when producing them. The REAL answer is, and will be HYDROGEN.....they are out there now on truck fleets but for the time being, they take a back seat to the electric saga.

Where do “higher mileage” 458 values stand today? I have 34k miles on my 2010 Rosso Scuderia 458 that is loaded with almost every available option, all carbon, carbon racing seats, etc. not sure what mine is worth today given the mileage.

I'm not sure about where 458 valuations will end up but right now they're pretty high. I've been watching the market daily and the same cars have been for sale for months. To me this indicates the market is softening a bit. I think the high rollers wanting one of these cars at any cost are dwindling and reality is just starting to kick in. We'll have to wait and see.

A Tesla Model S is about as fast as a Ferrari 458 (and I imagine the new Roadster will destroy it).

Electric race cars are much faster than a 458, of course. But that's not really a fair comparison.

Eh, this is a common complaint against electric cars, and while there is some truth to it I don't think it's as bad as the electric car critics make it out to be. We've gotten better and better at manufacturing batteries and recycling them and I'm sure humanity will continue improving. As our power grid gets more and more reliant on renewable sources (Vermont is 100% renewable now), EVs will have even more going for them. Not sure how much you trust Car and Driver as an investigative publication, but after accounting for battery manufacture and recycling they show that EVs are more environmentally friendly than ICE cars after a certain number of miles.

I'm by no means an EV fanboy. I can appreciate the capabilities of a Tesla but they do nothing for me. They're basically a very high-performing driving appliance compared to the passion and art that is a Ferrari. And for that reason the last NA V8 Ferrari might be near the bottom of its depreciation curve. That's fine with me!

Around $180k-200k would be my guess. Maybe more if it's a cream puff with service history etc.

You did leave off the last part of my "quote" in that...Hydrogen will supplant it all, truck fleets run with it already......keep your eye on the ball. Electric is not it, unless until upon which time that all the politicals cash in on it.

I don't know enough about hydrogen and electric cars to really have much of an opinion. I imagine hydrogen is tough because you gotta make the hydrogen, then transport the hydrogen, then consume the hydrogen and turn it into mechanical power... it seems like it'd use a lot of energy to do all that. Electric cars are powered only by electricity which never has to be converted to something else.

But like I said I have no idea. I don't think anyone knows for sure. It does seem pretty likely that ICE cars will soon (too soon!) be a thing of the past. Hold onto those 458 if you got 'em. :D

360s and 430s are probably lower because of the cost of maintenance.

Solid service history is more important than miles on the newer cars- The idiocy of the past where Ferraris dropped significantly at 10k are over imho- people appreciate cars that have been driven BUT meticulously cared for and properly maintained wil all records, manuals, keys, window sticker etc.

All this coupled with great spec and options that matter will continue to hold value imho. Today's craziness will subside but I think it will be a while before a good spec, meticulously cared for and documented 458 Italia drops below $200k and Spiders will hover at $210- 220k.

I'm no expert but just my opinion-

360 and 430 F1s are lower because the F1 trans pales in comparison to DCT in every aspect.

360 and especially 430 factory manuals are off the charts. Maintenance on 360s is not bad and even better on 430s with timing chain instead of belt. Biggest maintenance risk on both is F1 trans and the tops on the Spiders can be problematic.

430 F1 at either side of $160k is still a ridiculously good Ferrari bargain IMO.

    Cheers

If you dare track the 458, you’ll truly appreciate how good the DCT is. It’s so smooth, you can literally shift in turns without upsetting the car (generally frowned upon, but you can do it).

I’m at 32k with more than a dozen track days. So far it’s just been mostly normal stuff like fluids, brakes, tires, alignment, filters, etc.

I did change plugs and replaced the pre-cat sensors and coolant expansion tank - the price of doing business. Been pretty bullet proof.

7:32 for the 458 and 7:35 for the Tesla. Pretty incredible for the Tesla that it's a huge, heavy, 4-door family hauler and just 3 seconds behind a purpose-built supercar.

I'd rather drive the 458 any day of the week.
