    Still seems relevant as people are/considering importing them. Values are totally different between variants, colors and even region. That's a lot of threads but knock yourself out :)

    Europe hasn't seen the same asset pricing bubble we have. Cars are more expensive to run there (cheaper maintenance but gas is 2x as much), taxes are brutal (33% total tax to road register the car), etc.

    Not cheap to import with container prices being what they are, but there is a reason the price differential exists.

    Japan is easy to import from for us west coasters...but values there are now higher than North America.

    European cars are generally much higher mileage it seems as well.

    In about 3 months, this car will be advertised on Craigslist across the U.S with a clean Belgian carfax and title with recent service history :).

    I found a 1998 manual 355 spider red/tan with 15k miles for sale locally in NY.
    Owner has all service records from new, last engine out was in 2013 at 13k miles, as per owner no previous paintwork, tires from 2014, front end and fenders ppf done 2014, replaced seat potentiometers.
    Trying to figure out a price to buy and do major, motor mounts, etc once under my ownership.
    I will get a ppi and paint meter readings once we agree on the price.
    Any idea what I should offer in this current market and rough costs to bring the car back to driving condition?

    sounds exactly like my situation! you can offer $75k, but you are likely to spend $25k and iffy whether you could get $100k back out now. based on BAT sometimes it would be a $90k car, sometimes a $110k.

    You’re going to spend at least $25k once they get into the major. The big cost isn’t the major; its what they find during the major. People talk about $25k majors; there is no such thing. But their total bill once the car leaves the shop is $25k on a regular basis. Unless they find something really big.

    If the clutch hasn’t been replaced; you might as well do it while the engine is out even though it’s an easy job. Most OEM throw out bearings are shot at this point. Change the water pump if it’s not included & use Hill tensioners instead of OEM. Check the top out for perfect operation.

    Recent sales that I have tracked would be closer to $90k for a gated spider. $25k for a major is nonsense. probably 1/2 that.

    I’ve seen them “recommend” all sorts of things during a major. They will frequently “recommend” things all the way to $25k consistently; I promise. That was my point. You don’t have to do everything they recommend obviously, but they will try to get the bill up there. That’s all.
