Is it still for sale? I’ve always loved the elegance of the 456.
Is it in VA, I saw a Canadian flag in one of the photos?
    Thanks!

The car is being prepped for BaT though, as was observed in this thread, might take a while before it goes live. So yes, at this point it is still for sale privately.

It is located 10 miles north-west of Philadelphia. If you are interested I can put you in touch with the owner.

Last I heard this car is slated to be auctioned on BaT in the next week or so. But with BaT one never knows for sure until the auction goes up. I sent you a PM.

The issue isn’t rising market, it’s soaring inflation, the likes of which we haven’t seen in over thirty years. I see it everyday with every aspect of my business and personal life.

After reading the BaT listing and seeing that it has an accident and a mileage discrepancy, how does anyone feel about the originally posted price here?

I thought it was optimistic at the time, then I thought it had a chance, now I don’t. Not helping matters, more and more cars are going reserve not met every day that goes by. Sotheby’s only sold 59% of their cars in Fort Lauderdale this weekend. I haven’t really dug through the recent Mecums sale to see what happened there, because their website is a pain in the nuts.

I think this M car might tell a lot op about the 456M GT market. If the original ask holds I think that is good, it is a staid color combo but does have OE shields - yet not the Daytona seats, piping or the cool leather bottom door/silver center caps found on later M models, but there are not a lot of those. If it goes bananas all bets are off.

Any one have thoughts on what that 1995 456 GT with 180,000 miles that was listed in the Sotheby's Ft. Lauderdale auction should go for? The file on the website didn't really have any useful info and it looks like most of those miles were from the 1st owner and it has been driven very infrequently since. I'm kind of interested in it...

Also GLWA on BaT for this seller!

I heard through the grapevine they were reserved at $60k + 12%.

ETA: also heard high bid was $47500 + 10%

That reserve is too high IMO. The file didnt show any paperwork. Might be a different story if the miles were from the last two owners. But probabaly quite a few cobwebs that need clearing. Im intetested ib that car, but for the right price (like many others, I imagine).

No comment on anyone else that might be interested, but it was maintained by a private mechanic, and both the previous owner and the private mechanic are dead. Hence no docs.

Daytonas are IMO uncomfortable, of course look very snazzy...

Is the Private mechanic someone "known" in our community?
JRVs been dead for a long time.
There was another one in Florida that was killed grinding his floor for paint.

All dead people have Probate Agents so I would think Records could be bought from that.

456s bottomed out going begging at $55K (in my market), but this is an M.
    It's a stick,
Ferrari is dropping gasoline V12s to build electrics.

They then rose in the market to around $75K for a nice one.

Then MT Mania hit, and everyone was looking at $500K for a MT 599!
So, where we are today is anyone's guess.

It's sad to me it's having trouble breaking $60K

But comparing a GT to a 355 is like apples to oranges.

I have heard the mechanic is “Guissepe” who ran the large fleet. He did not maintain receipts of parts purchases.
    ETA: and he’s dead now

So anywho. Back to the car in this thread. Did anyone look at the compression results?

#10 is far outside (I assume 10% is acceptable?)

if that was on the PPI, I would be asking for a re rest of that cylinder or confirming just what’s happening there.

Good to see I'm not the only one thinking this is potentially a cobweb of disasters!

Hanging out at Bruce's shop (Maranello Auto in Eustis) I've seen quite a few F cars come through the doors looking like they have minor issues but guess what, ended being much more than meets the eye.

There are just so many unknowns about this car and with that kind of mileage, yeah OK, I wouldn't be comfortable taking the plunge. Maybe that's why it didn't sell at auction.

Also, could this be the highest mileage 456 ever?

I was on the phone with their consignment specialist today, their get it done all-in number is around $57-58k. They said at $58k they think they could set up a PPI, at $57k they are less confident. The car is in FL and the seller is in PA preparing to have the car trailered back up, which is some of what complicates the PPI issue. I decided to pass.
