They also have a rip roaring racing side of the house that over the years has turned out hardcore track attack machines. Every so often, their in-house Quattro department supplies the engineering wizardry required to create street legal versions of these all-out performance machines. Short for “RennSport” – German for Racing Sport – the RS division is Audi’s answer to the BMW M and Mercedes-Benz AMG factory tuners. Sitting atop the Audi performance hierarchy, the RS moniker is reserved for the automakers’ halo cars that typically sport the most advanced engineering and technology available. With the RS7, Audi took the striking “Sportback” looks from their A7 sedan and transformed it into a four-door supercar. It smoked the BMW M6 Gran Coupe and Mercedes CLS63 AMG S in a 2013 Car and Driver comparison where it was noted that the “engine roars like a wild animal, fierce and alive.” At the time, the standard RS7 was clocked to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds and the Performance variant up for auction today cranks out even more power and more twist. In short, it is the ultimate RS7. Exterior Exclusive to the RS7 Performance variant, the Ascari Blue Metallic finish looks to be immaculate. Additional RS-specific features include a black honeycomb-mesh “Singleframe” front grille, special front and rear fascias with matte aluminum accents and black-finished dual elliptical exhaust outlets. They are part of the sport exhaust system that was included on the Performance edition. This car is fitted with the Carbon Optic package that adds carbon fiber front and rear diffusers, high-gloss black accents and “Quattro” script on the lower front grille. Equipment includes LED headlamps and power-folding, heated side mirrors with carbon fiber housings. The power-operated rear liftgate features hands-free release and the rear spoiler automatically rises at speeds over 80 mph. There is no rust present and no history of paint or bodywork on the car. Unique to the RS7 Performance, the 21” blade-design wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S rubber with 2017 date codes. They are sized 275/30 all around and front a carbon ceramic braking system with cross-drilled rotors and gray-finished calipers featuring Audi Ceramic branding. Interior The black interior features Valcona leather upholstered seats with honeycomb-quilted Alcantara inserts and blue contrast stitching. The heated front buckets are 12-way power-adjustable with driver’s side memory settings and RS7 logos embossed in the backrest. Carbon fiber blue twill inlays, unique to the RS7 Performance, are applied to the center console, dash fascia and door panels. Black Alcantara extends to the headliner, surrounding a power-operated sunroof. All surfaces appear to be in excellent condition with bolster wear on the front seats detailed in the gallery. Wrapped in perforated leather, the 3-spoke, flat-bottom multi-function steering wheel fronts shift paddles and an instrument panel with central digital information screen. The screen is flanked by an analog 8,000-rpm tachometer and 185-mph speedometer along with gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. Amenities include a head-up display, four-zone automatic climate control, 14-speaker Bose surround sound audio system, and tinted windows. The Audi MMI system features integrated navigation on a central screen that rises out of the dashboard. The Driver Assistance suite of active safety systems includes Audi Pre-Sense Plus, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Active Lane Assist, High Beam Assistant and the Corner View camera system. Audi Side Assist, a backup camera and parking sonar front and rear are also fitted. Mechanical The original 4.0L twin-turbo V8 power plant in this 2016 RS7 Performance made 605 horsepower when new and up to 553 lb-ft of torque with the overboost function enabled. Versus the standard RS7, this motor features unique turbocharger turbines, revised valve timing, new exhaust valves, different camshafts, higher efficiency radiators and a reprogrammed control unit.
