First and last race was Indy, 2005. It was back when the cars sounded like low-flying fighter jets (naturally aspirated V10's). It was cool to see Schumy and Rubens drive but the race will go down in history as one of the most disappointing events ever. I have no desire to go to another race to watch turbo/hybrid cars. Makes me sad.
1st, last and only. 1976 at Watkins Glen. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
One and only: 2003 USGP in Indianapolis. Great race. Lots of action. Only eight cars finished. Schummy won, but his brother Ralf had a bad smack-up that broke some vertibrae. Zolt Baumgardner scored his one and only F1 point!
For me the first was Indianapolis 2003 (where Schumi went from 7th on the grid to 1st, with 4 pitstops!) Last one was Austin 2017 (wow it's been a while..) where people kept complaining my flag was obstructing their view and a drunk 'Italian' girl wanted to take a picture with me because I had the Italian flag apparently..
Only been to one race, Austin 2019, was hanging out in the Alfa Romeo display (free coffee) and then ran into some guy in the Carrera display next door. Image Unavailable, Please Login https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=10218734531305693&set=a.4475046325553
1st 1979 US West GP Gilles Villeneuve captured pole, fastest lap and the win for Ferrari, followed by his teammate Jody Scheckter. Last, 2021 Italian GP at Monza, Hamilton ended up side-by-side with Verstappen on the pit exit and into turn 1. Verstappen was squeezed into turn 2, bouncing over a sausage kerb and making contact with Hamilton's left rear tyre, launching Verstappen's car into the air and over the top of Hamilton's car.
1st-1977 U.S. West GP at Long Beach. My hero, Mario won in the beautiful JPS Lotus. See attached photo of Niki in the pits. Last-2000 US GP at Indianapolis. Ferrari, 1,2. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm a little fuzzy on the exact years but: Watkins Glen 1970 Got to meet Emerson Fittipaldi while walking around the pits Saturday evening. Graham Hill's pit crew asked me if I was a local. I was, sort of, as I went to college nearby. They asked me if I thought they should fit rain tires on the car as the forecast was iffy for bad weather. Montreal 1995 It was a parade after the first turn. Boring. Never went back.
1995 - Adelaide. Glorious V10s. last F1 before moving to Melbourne. Hakkinen horror crash and trackside tracheotomy right in front of us. Damon Hill wins. 2014 - Melbourne. Rosberg wins. Our Aussie hero Ricciardo 2nd then disqualified for excessive fuel usage. That and first year with asthmatic turbos turned me off.
The car in your top photo is a Formula Super Vee, not a Formula 1 car. I bet the VW engine had a hard time competing against the 3 liter V8s.
That may be from another race at Pocono about the same time, don't recall, it was in the same computer folder with the F1 photos. I don't think they ran Formula V as a warmup at Watkins Glen but hey, who knows.
Actually I do know...they didn't run Formula V or Super Vee as support races at the Glen's F1 races. It was probably a photo from Pocono as you surmised. But it was fun seeing your photo 'cause my face (in the helmet) is on the side of that car.
I stand corrected. I just looked it up and there was a Super Vee race at the Glen F1 weekend in 1976.
My first was the last race at Indy, 2007 (no that wasn't the tire fiasco year, that was 2005). My last was Austin 2013 (went to the firs there in 2012 as well).
