I can guess by your age you have not been involved in a lot of negotiations. One thing I have learned in decades of negotiations “he who cares least always wins”, you are chasing this deal way to hard so your likelihood of ending with a deal that will make you happy is not good. IMO you need to step back from this deal and find an alternative deal even if it means a longer delivery time. It took me 18 months to find my first Ferrari and three deals that I just missed for a variety reasons. The deal and car I finally ended up with was far better than any of the three deals I missed. Hang in there and keep on shopping, after all it is half the fun of the experience.:)

I guess I did let the excitement of ordering a new Ferrari get the best of me. But as I thought (so did the salesperson) that it was a done deal I guess I didn’t consider any enthusiasm can be used negatively.

I am now speaking with a Ferrari dealer from another state who claims their wait time for a Roma is 12 months, and they are waiting for approval from Ferrari for the long distance sale. Fingers crossed it will work out, and if not I will have to follow everyone else’s advice and take the Cali and trade towards a different brand

Well, don't overlook the possibility of locating a preowned Roma in red/cuoio. Those are popular colors and I wouldn't be surprised if you can find one for sale before a new one could be delivered. Any dealership in the country will gladly sell you a preowned Roma with no restrictions.

I will totally buy pre-owned if the combo is just red/cuoio.

After all this, sounds like general consensus, pre-owned or another brand...life is too short!

It is funny reading threads like this that more off than not, the dirtbag dealer is never outed to the community. The OP always seems ultimately intimidated by the thought of losing ownership/allocation status, pissing off the service department or worst of all alerting the mothership to your defiance.

I know...right. Well it seems like it is one of the dealers in NY that was supposedly changed ownership. Not hard to find if one really wants to.

The OP isn't wrong to feel "wronged" as the dealer sales person/GM did in fact seem renege on the deal after text agreement. Not to mention the lack of returning texts, calls etc...

    Obviously not a legal issue.

So...as someone already said, the immediate options in my mind were:

    1) do the $165k trade on a used Roma now and enjoy it until you ordered Roma arrives. Get them to agree a trade-in price given the mix-up and forcing you to buy the used car (hopefully they see that as a fair compromise). It will cost you more in total (let's say $20k in depreciation on the used Roma) but then you get to enjoy a Roma for the next 8 months.

    2) Do the $155k trade on a new Roma and avoid having to get the used Roma. Yup, its gonna cost you $10k more.

    3) you say "maybe" you can order out of your area...(If it were me, and knowing about FNA's policies on selling out of area, and knowing that perhaps that will get back to your local dealer and potentially inhibit your future relationship with them...I would guess your options may be limited to 1 and 2 above and not "door number 3" of going out of the area to an unknown dealer with longer wait times. If this option can happen, then it might be best for you.)

So looking at options 1 and 2, both of those suck in two ways:

    a) they reneged on a text agreement (bad juju), hard to get over for many folks
    b) these options cost you more ($10k on option 2, or $20k less your assigned value of using the used roma until you get the ordered car in option 1)

If it were me, I'd first decide if having a used Roma for ~8 months is worth anywhere near $20k to me. If I determined its not, then I'd go for option 2 and have an in-person meeting (or call if they will actually get on the phone with you) and lay it out and say the "pulling the rug and wanting $10k more after we agree" is bad juju and make them repeat they want to do that to me live. If they say yes, I'd explain how wrong it is and ask them to meet me in the middle at $160k trade given the rug pulling. If they said "no", I'd tell them to **** off and report the matter to FNA and be done with them. (that's my personal f you point, other folks might be anything above the agreed $165k trade towards new car only deal. Some might be okay with eating the whole $10k. Obviously that is a personal determination...)

At 24 $10k might be a bigger deal than it is at your age? Additionally most folks don’t like to be jerked around at any age.
My experience has been when folks don’t honor there their word that is just the first bump in a bumpy road. Life is short as you said, why put up with that kind of treatment, I sure don’t. I have several cars and I sure don’t need one more, so I am willing to walk from any deal. I guess at this point in life I care the least.

Especially at 24 yo, OP really needs to know that this is not how life works.

Many of us has endured these types of mistreatment in our lifetime, especially when we were younger. If only we had this type of support back then!

    Hello everyone!

I’ve given the dealer more than plenty of time to rectify the situation and of course, nothing.

This happened at Ferrari of Houston/Ferrari of the Woodlands in TX. The salesperson was Paul Frame and GM is Tony Nevotti. I want to reiterate that in the past they were a pleasure to deal with, so as others mentioned perhaps the change in ownership may have unfortunately changed their methods.

Thanks to everyone for the advice!

It's true there are always 2 sides to every story, but I don't smell fish here. End of the day, he wants to buy a Roma. Dealer is saying he has to buy something else to get a Roma. That's odd, given the Roma is positioned as the entry-level car. I think many other dealers will be happy to order one without pre-condition.

Thats right! Put it out there. Majority of us will be purchasing new or used in the future and good to steer clear of certain establishments.

Plenty of dealers out there unless you are looking for exclusive Ferrari models.

Just grab a used Roma, no biggy you most likely will change it out sooner or later for the next idea. Well thats how I am. I don't even know all the cars I have at the moment :)

The Roma's rear is a direct rip from Aston Martin. The front looks like a colander.
    Check Aston's inventory here: https://www.astonmartin.com/en-us/
See something you like in stock? Make a deal with that dealer. You don't have to play the dedicated dealer game.
I have a Ferrari and an Aston. Considering you are considering the Roma which is a 2+2 coupe you might enjoy a DB11.
Go take a test drive somewhere and decide it might just be what works for you. You rarely find red Astons but then an Aston is a bit more understated. Can you handle that?

Any dealer that gives you a delivery time is lying to you. I had a good saleman ( Hank Carpenter) at Ft. Lauderdale Ferrari> We ordered the car to my complete satisfaction and the car came in as ordered.
No one at any Ferrari Dealer can tell you when the car will come as they don't know nor is it under their control.
If you want a Roma as I got, you will have to wait and wait and wait.
Ferrari is closed in August and December and Covid didn't help either.
I ordered mine on August 8, 2020 and just got it 4 weeks ago.
I am really happy with it as it is a great car.
Unless you are willing to pay over sticker price, you may be waiting 19 months as I had to

waiting is one thing, the dealer didn't make you buy a used car as a pre-condition for your Roma order right?

I'd take the V12 DB11 over the Roma any day. That car is the most beautiful Aston ever. And there are 58 exterior colors to choose from, including 6 reds. 29 different interior colors too.
