I’ve come across quite a bit of 355 oddities over the years, but don’t really have a place to post them. Some cool, some puzzling. Ferrari was all over the place when they produced this car.

    Post what you’ve discovered :).

XTC-F11RDS it was fitted to 456 in some countries not the F355 despite this picture in brochure.

A dealer told me that they frequently “touched-up” paint on 348/355 bodies when they received them from the port. I understand that they were hand painted, but I looked at a very low mileage car that the owner swore ‘em never had paint work, but my gauge was 3 mils thicker in one small area. I called a dealer unassisted with the car & they explained that it may have been painted upon delivery.

F355 Challenge rear badge yellows for no apparent reason, while other badges do not. I purchased a NOS stock Ferrari Challenge badge and it pretty much yellowed over the years (maybe 5 years) just sitting in the garage, while the 27 year old F355 Berlinetta badges remained pristine (both cars).

    Explain that!

They all do. But only the challenge badge. Definitely an oddity :).

Perhaps because Ferrari originally arranged for just a few hundred F355 challenge badges to be made and the same plastic inserts, prone to yellowing, was used for all of them.

    Factory-option Carbon Bezel.

When equipped on the car from the factory, the front edge has a line distortion where the mold needed to be split to produce the part. If you buy this part as NOS (not equipped on the car) that line distortion now has a black masking tape over with matte clear coat applied over it and the entire outer portion. Looks pretty odd.

They went through great efforts to make sure the outer most visible parts of the bezel were sprayed in matte clear as opposed to gloss. I felt this was odd as all other OE carbon bits for the 355 are glossy.

My F355 GTS badge was yellowed before I replaced it. Not much of an oddity.

Percentage-wise, it is :). I’d say 75% of challenge badges yellow’d and considering very few of those around, it’s not unusual to see. One would be hard-pressed to find a yellowing non-challenge badge, although I’m sure it can occur.

Keep in mind my NOS challenge badge turned yellow without ever seeing any weathering. Just storage, whereas badges on driven cars remained fairly silver.

Senshi458 recently posted that he has a factory installed fire extinguisher & bracket that is mounted behind the passenger seat headrest; next to the “sunglass box” that’s mounted in the center of the curved rear window.
