    Hello All,

Considering a nice, fair-priced 458. The main selling point for me is the all tan interior. I know, I know there are more important things about a Ferrari. But everything else being equal, the space I spend the most time in is important to me. Full disclosure, my mom was a car nut (like everyone else in the family) and she HATED split color interiors. The fact that I found a full tan (which seems pretty rare) means something to me since she died recently.

Anyway. The only issue I can see is the fact that this car does not have the carbon fiber dash inserts. What is the non-carbon material? Is it a cheap feeling plastic?

I suppose I can always get after-market carbon. And exchange the yellow calipers for red. And add gold wheels.

What say you all? Should lack of carbon be a deal-breaker?

It’s a matte painted plastic in silver/grey. If the dashboard inserts are the only non carbon trim then yeah you can aftermarket replace them. But if you have non-carbon driver zone or center tunnel I’d just keep it as is for consistency. I have driver zone in carbon on mine and everything else regular. Doesn’t bother me at all and I’m usually just focused on the steering wheel carbon.

Congrats on finding a beige one. Love that interior. Mine’s black and wish I could have found a beige one at the time. Will do so on my 296 on order, but as you call out there not really all beige interiors anymore.

I have heard that a bright dashboard is harder due to reflection in the windscreen. I always thought that sounded like BS, but I’m surprised now that even my black dash distracts me pretty often on afternoon drives when the sun is at a bad angle. Still I think they look gorgeous.

    Thanks for the reply!

I really do love the carbon but I've decided not to worry about it. If I decide I need it I can always go aftermarket.

The full-tan is much more important to me. Even the steering wheel is tan!

I have heard about glare being an issue but I have other cars with tan dashes and it's never been an issue. Just gotta have the tan interior. Makes me feel like a proper gentleman.

Is this the two-tone 458S being discussed in the other thread?

If so and if you like the all beige and it has sentimental value to you then a) the lack of carbon dash inserts definitely would not be a deal breaker and b) looks like just another reason to pull the trigger :D:cool:

Nope, this is another car. I updated the other thread. Deposit paid! Trigger pulled, assuming clean PPI . . .

I'm not going to have the popular opinion here (but you know what they say about opinions).
BUT... I like the silver dash pieces (however, on my car, I also have a silver stripe on my black interior, and silver seat belts, and silver calipers).
They are aluminum and feel very strong and high quality. The carbon fiber on the other hand feels flimsy/plasticky to me and creaks. If you don't believe me, grab the air vent pod that sticks up, and "gently" move it back and forth, then try the same thing with the standard silver pieces. I don't like the CF shift paddles either! They definitely look great, but once again, give them a nice pull to shift gears, and you feel flex in them, they are "plasticky". If you do the same with the aluminum paddles, they feel very rigid and direct, and give a nice click with feedback (as a matter of fact, if my car had CF shifters, I would have traded someone for the stock aluminum ones).
I think I better go put on a flame suit now! LOL

    Thanks for the thoughtful reply!

Is it true that the grey inserts are actual aluminum?

    That would be terrific news.

Seriously? I’ll have to pay more attention. The center tunnel and door latches too or just the dash trim?

You guys just made my whole week.

That's $6k worth of carbon I won't be buying. Gold speciale wheels instead.

I don't right now as it seems the dealership took down the listing today. I will post here as soon as I get a photo.

    good question. i assume so.
I have only disassembled the dash to deal with a rattle.
I was surprised they were metal. Milled too, not stamped.
