Kicking the idea around about making my exhaust sound a little better. I am never one to slap a full exhaust on a new car but was researching Valve Switches vs. Permanently opening the valves.

The pros with a switch is I can open and close it. Con is that the car needs to be taken apart a little more than I would like and things tend to rattle at high speeds after the car is disassembled and reassembled.

Pros with permanently opening is that it cost very little. Con is that I cannot close it. Not sure how loud it gets, so not sure if this is even an issue.

    Have any insights?

Boils down to personal preference. You've pretty much done a good job outlinimg the issues.

WOT pretty much solves it, but with the 812 it's a difficult plain to sustain.

I have capristo remote, it gives possibility to keep silent in neighborhood and on long runs :)

Trying to choose between Capristo and Forza valve controllers. My Ferrari dealer recommended Capristo as "it has a smaller size".
From my own research it appears that the Capristo valve controller has only 2 modes:
    1. Normal Mode: The vehicle controls operation of the exhaust bypass valves. This is the stock mode.
    2. Always Open Mode: Forces the valves to remain open at all times, overriding the vehicle's ECU.
Whereas the Forza componenti has a 3rd mode which Capriso is apparently lacking:
    3. Always Closed Mode: Forces the valves to remain closed at all times.

Sorry if this is a bit off topic, but I would appreciate your feedback as your comment implies that your Capristo controller also has this 3rd mode to keep the valves always closed?

I have the Capristo and love the fact as I can resort back to OEM mode. The biggest difference is on the down shifts as the valves remain open and there is really beautiful sounds. You don't get that in OEM.

this is all correct. i can only echo this.
i've had both the capristo and forza. forza is a lot better. better remote range as well.

have u thought about changing the catalytic converters? that will make the largest difference in sound!

Usually don’t like to change major components. My other weekend car is an Aventador S, so I was slightly underwhelmed by the exhaust on the 812. It sounds great but it is much higher pitched. Just trying to give it more action without changing major components on a new car.

I’ve got the capristo controller on mine and I leave the valves open all the time. It’s not that loud coming into the neighborhood at low rpm, so I just leave them open. I don’t really see any reason to close them

I have the forza and my 19 year old installed it in about 2 hours in the dark over the holiday break. Handy kid and sharp but said it was very easy. Just a little more info. And it’s forza that has the third mode…have never used it.

The cabins of the 812 and F12 are so well sound insulated that you really won't be able to hear much unless windows are rolled down. Standing outside the car you will notice a bigger difference. That's why many people who enjoy exhaust sounds change out the entire system.

I personally have my valves pinned open all the time in my F12 and have no issues with excess noise. If I want it less noisy I roll up my windows.

you all don't notice excess drone when on the highway? I know it's not straight piped or something but that's always my fear

When I have mine open I do notice it a bit and I put it back to normal…but I am super sensitive to sounds. Have been known to obsess over a squeak. ;)

Never bothered me, and I can always utilize the stereo too if it did.

I had my valves open for a while- did it myself. Quite easy all you need to do is take the wheels off. It was not (too) loud at all. I highly recommend doing it if you don’t replace the rear boxes.

Have remotes on all the cars. Highway drone is noticeable if you keep open. But most importantly it's for the sound when having fun
