A few days ago I sought advice from the forum on 2 Spiders I was looking at. Today I pulled the trigger on neither, but instead a gorgeous 1998 Berlinetta F1 that came out of left field with an impressive spec.

    Factory components
    • Fiorano Package
    • ECU upgrade
    • Carbon fibre race seats
    • Upholstered half roll cage
    • Challenge rear grille
    • Carbon Fibre F1 paddles
    • Scuderia sheilds
    Aftermarket
    • Dynmag Carbon Fibre wheels
    • Tubi headers, exhaust and test pipes
    • GruppeM air intake
    • Carbon Fibre rear diffuser and engine bay side panels
    • Carbon instrument panels
Can't wait for it to arrive

Many thanks to forumites and elsewhere for the advice given. This will be the 5th Ferrari I have owned and possibly the last :)

Congrats! This was the car to get!

A few things. There should be no ECU upgrade. If there is, it wasn’t factory. There’s no such upgrade. Steering wheel is also not factory.

Your carbon engine bay side panels are also from Gruppe M. I recommend carbon door sills.

Take good care of her. No expense was spared on this car.

The steering wheel is a question mark. I'm told that because it's an airbag car that wheel shouldn't be there but a previous owner was going to get it legitimised. We will see but the factory wheel comes with it along with factory alloys.

there are carbon sills but it appears a rubber strip has been added to them

VERY nice. I'm in AU but check trademe every now and then to see what's available. I saw that car and noticed how nice it looked and what a great spec it has.
    Well done!

The rubber strip is a factory part.

Carbon Radio surround should be an OE Ferrari offering. Might want to get the stickies redone on the radio outer trim.

Your console control center in carbon fiber is after-market. Most likely from Valence USA. They no longer produce them.

Your door sills are an after-market reproduction of the standard door sills, but in carbon. They are a nice offering as well, however, the official Ferrari carbon door sills have a different look and come with “Ferrari” aluminum scripts. Refer back to the other car I posted you commented in.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the steering wheel as long as you have the original airbag one in your possession.

Choosing a Spider over this car would’ve been the biggest Ferrari mistake of your life :). This 355 is the only F1 355 I would ever buy. I actually contemplated contacting the owner to buy it.

I pretty much have all the unique spec’d 355’s in the world memorized. I’m pretty confident this is a 1 of 1.

Thank you, you have been such a help. Yes the challenge door screens are still there, I see them in the recent photos. I've already started buying a few bits. Enquired about a carbon radio surround and ordered a carbon handbrake grip :)

Man that is awfully nice. Please post a clip of the exhaust note when you get it, curious what a de-catted Tubi sounds like. Congrats.

Your car is definitely a 1999 MY. One of 13 RHD F1 cars optioned with FHP UK-delivered. Info from a UK Ferrari forum.

From MyFerrari Garage. Interesting that the recessed shields and carbon paddles aren't on the list but I possibly read somewhere they may be part of the factory FHP (at least the shields, they are definitely the recessed ones on the car)

You were right about the narrow seats.

FHP and shields is not a given. They are separate options. Reza has FHP, but he does not have embossed shields. I think they are original to the car. Probably ran out of room on the list :). Carbon paddles could be after-market as well.

Rosso Red (0504) coloured stitching... that's the first time I've seen the code for the red stitching. I'll be needing that :).

Let us know how the car drives/handles. We need more Feedback on FHP. Also, if you can check if your brake pads are yellow.

In regards to seat sizing -

One of my biggest beefs with the carbon sport seats for the longest time was they look visually too big/wide for the car when looking from the outside. That alone made me question if I really liked them or not for years. I then stumbled upon a few that looked narrower than usual. Then I found more pics of your car in particular. The seat sizing looks just about right. It was believed for a long time, the 355 carbon sport seats only came in one size. I knew yours was different. That's when I set out to solve the mystery once and for all.

My conclusion (which I believe is proven). 95-97 cars came with 1 standard sized carbon sport seats. For 98 and 99 cars, Ferrari ditched that size/design and decided to offer a narrower version (Narrow) and a Larger version (Large). So only two options for 98-99 cars. Standard size no longer available. In short, there are 3 sizes for 355 in the 5 year span. Both the 98-99 Narrow and Larger versions are much rarer in my opinion.
