2012 458 spider 22,000 mikes has been dripping oil for last 5 days about a drip a hour . Oil level is fine. it goes in shop today. I can see nothing from top of engine. because of shields no idea. wish me luck.
I just did a front timing case cover reseal on a 458. It was not exactly fun. At the same time we bought the oil pump seal kit and fixed that up too. Reason I say to do both..is because the front cover needs to be removed to drop the oil pump..as the pump driveshaft needs to be pulled from the timing gear side out of the pump drive. Hopefully it is not that tho.. and it's just a leaking drain plug..
I was lucky it was a loose drain plug. You could see on the shield that there was impact in the drain plug area, I remember hitting a object, we assumed that was enough to loosen the drain plug. torgued it to specs, luck smiled on me tonight
Guys. My oil pump has a leak right here. Any help on how to repair it would be very helpful Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Pump must be removed. All gaskets required to do the job are sold as a set from Ferrari. It's.not too bad..keep in mind..the pump is driven by a drive shaft that splines into a gear that is driven by the timing chain. Towards the front of the pump there is a coller that is held in with a c-clip. That must be removed and slid out of its groove in order for the pump to be removed. You will also have to remove the lower section of the oil tank where the oil drain is in order to slide out the assembly. It's a fiddley job but doable.
If you go on the eurospares web site and bring up the diagram for the oil pump..you will see a Dimond shape where normally a number would be on the diagram. That indicates a set..or kit. Follow it up in the legend..and you will see the kit number.
Really common. Especially on the Challenge cars. We simply resealed them every off season. Since I see the tamper seal I assume this is a Challenge car.
