458 red paint comes off engine cover?

To eliminate the paint coming off at all, make this a winter project and have them powdercoated and your problem should be resolved.

 

You don't need to wipe down the intakes. Clean bay as normal with light water, dry with electric blower, and blot remaining areas with towels, do not rub.

 

Don't dry rub paint even on manifolds. I use Griots interior cleaner believe it or not. Cleans engine compartment superbly and leaves no residue or shine. Blow off with air between clean ups so your not so hard on the finish.

 

Interesting post… So has anyone ever come up with a way to apply something to the current cover to make it shinier or more vibrant?

 

I bought a 2nd hand 2012 and the red paint on engine cover is already partly chipped off.
anyone knows how to fix the paint that came off?
is it even advisable to get some heat resistant red paint and try to fix the eye sore?

 

In 2017 in happened to me too ... I posted the problem on this thread, and went to the best body shop I know and they did a fantastic job... until today impecable ...

Sad. So much money for such poor quality.

 

I just repainted my plenum using VHT wrinkle red paint. I did an amateur job and you can tell it’s an amateur job up close, but from 5 feet away it looks great. I still need to sand the paint off the FERRARI and raised lines, but other than that I’m happy with the result. Cost me less than $15.

The VHT color red is too orange. Sadly not as close a match as we need.

 

It actually is a great match for my orange tinged Rosso Scuderia paint on the car!

Is there a red paint suitable I can throw over the VHT as a top coat?

I think a company called Riloplast has it but do not know how to get it in the US.

 

Try contacting Christian Bertolini at KColors. They have been the factory supplier for Ferrari,Maserati and Lamborghini at one time. They can provide all the known hues of reds,blues and blacks for italian supercars. They sell wrinkle finish in both regular cans and spray cans. I bought directly from Christian and it arrived in a nicely packed box. The shop who did the work for me said it was a premium product and first class result.

Wouldn’t that be powdercoated? Strange that the heat resistant powder coating would rub off that easily.
