I think Ric is underperforming rather than overrated...he is, however, running out of excuses and needs to deliver this year.

Agree'd. If he does not out-perform Norris this year, his shine is dimmed and in fact the team can start looking around for a future, team-mate for a long term locked Norris.

Ricciardo looked promising at Red Bull, but the 2 years at Renault did him no good.

Lost his mojo , confidence, whatever it is , there seems to be an over abundance of excuses . A driver of his calibre should do better and he is going backwards . As a team boss , I would ditch him in a second , plenty of younger talent at a fraction of his salary

It's always hard to judge a driver, some cars do not combine well with their skills, besides Latifi I don't think anybody is overrated in the F1 grid.

It’s hard to dislike Ricardo due to him being such a clown. He’s shown he has talent in past with Redbull, but has made some not very smart career moves as of lately. McLaren was an upgrade, but Norris is outshining him drastically. He seems to have lost that thunder down under drive he once had. I could see McLaren dropping him if he can’t get midpack finishes the rest of the year

Very easy to form an opinion based on armchair thinking. Last year, Danny was to Mclaren, what Sainz was to Ferrari. A car difficult to drive and not designed to suit their style of driving. Danny had got good points until Ferrari got an upgrade to their engine in the later season. This year is not helping him either with the brake heating issues(he likes to brake hard and very late). Danny gives you result when you give him a car which suits him(RB, good car, unreliable engine). Whether Mclaren have given him the car this season is anybody's guess. Couple that with the cost caps and hence conservative spending.

This is not to say he's an overachiever. Currently in the shadows of Lando, Lec, Max and other young drivers, Danny will have to get some good points under his belt to justify to be kept in the team.

An interesting lap analysis of how Danny and Lando drove at Imola.

Lando likes to carry more speed into the corner than Danny.

Yeah, I'm a fan of Dan's , being an Italian Aussie, but he seems to need a cattle prod to produce something special like Monza last year.

Wayne Gardner (MotoGP champ, Aussie) had his missus slap him around a bit before a race to gee him up so maybe Dan needs a slap :p

He needs a Rocky III injection :)

There are several promising drivers from the feeder series who never got to F1: Fabio Lemer, Davide, Valsechi who won it!

Also being good in GP2/F2 is no guarantee of success in F1: Nyck de Vries, Soffel Vandoorne, Jolyon Palmer ?

Your comparison is only valid with Vandoorne because he was very dominant in F2 but Piastri won three championships in a row being a Rookie every year.

To my modest opinion, he deserved to be in Formula one already this year with Williams or Alfa.

And it doesn't make sense, either. So what that a few drivers faltered in F1 despite massive success in junior Formulas...What's the alternative then, hire the poorly performing ones so that nothing is expected?:D

Read what I wrote before jumping to conclusion: " Being good in GP2/F2 is no guarantee of success in F1"

It may get you to F1, but driving for one of the minnows won't bring success.

Some interesting comments from Brown about Riccardo at the end. The actual video of the statements soften how sharp they read, but still some public criticism on one of your own drivers.

    --------------------

"Lando definitely has an edge. We obviously would like to see Daniel much closer to Lando and have a good inter-team battle.

"Daniel is just not comfortable yet with the car," said Brown on Sky Sports' Any Driven Monday.

"We are trying everything we can, again it was a disappointing weekend.

"Short of Monza and a few races, it has not met his or our expectations of what we were expecting.

"I think all you can do is keep working hard as a team, keep communications going, keep pushing and hope that whatever is not clicking at the moment, clicks shortly.

Ric is running out of time and excuses, I think he's on notice this season. I wonder if Zak will terminate his contract early for someone else?

No they will race with him to the end and send him off nicely. For some reason his 'adaptability' has evaporated overall. I expect him to be gone if he does not become a consistent performer vs Lando.
