Does anyone know where I might be able purchase an upgraded differential for the TR? It seems every vendor is out of stock at the moment.

Paul Newman if you have not tried him yet. I have run one of his for about 6 or 8 yrs now. Zero troubles to this point.

Paul Newman just made a batch. Give him a call.

Doing business with Modena just isn't worth it. Also Pauls is a far easier install.

I meanwhile had 4 diffs from modena and made only best experiences. pauls diff I never had so cannot say anything about this. but the modena diff has all interieurs what pauls diff not has.
also I wonder why pauls diff should be easier to install? diff is diff and pauls not has the interieurs, so more work and so not easier in my eyes

I tried to contact them many times (Modena Aus) but no reply from them via any of the methods I tried. So I bought one of Paul's instead. Easy transaction, arrived as expected and a lovely piece it is. Sat on my dressing table at the moment as an ornament until the Engine Out next year!!

Haha same here, my diff is a nice ornament in my office until I do the major when my shop has an opening. Ferrari dealer wouldn’t install it because it is not a “Ferrari part”

My Newman diff carrier didn't stay on my desk for too long (As pretty as it is) 'cause it gave me the motivation to not risk the original one letting go. I was too anxious about the transmission horrors, and Murphy's Law. Take her out for a gentle spin and have the diff carrier break and take out the ring & pinion & case while my desk looks great!

I did the diff carrier swap with the engine in place a f t e r the EO service. I figured that was my timing hiccup o_O which was pretty easy to accept.

There was a theory that the diff breaks because the bearings seize..not sure if chicken or the egg

Do all broken diffs have these score marks?

By the time the diff gives the bearing is totally destroyed..so can't (at least me) can't figure out which came first. Seeing this on a good diff makes me rethink that theory

I think this was you mean as score marks is more from grinding the diff/the weld to get even

From time to time you see a bearing that has spun. Its what that is called. Never seen one seize.

Not connected to weld breaking. Lets not start yet another wild rumor.

I am not starting anything Brian .. someone ( a highly regarded shop here in NJ) mentioned that to me years ago and I blew it off.
Now that I see the "spun" bearing on a good diff I am wondering if his explanation held any water
His theory was that the bearing caused the lockup and broke the weld
I am defending anyone .. just sharing things I heard .. take it or leave it
Thanks for reminding me of the proper term .. couldn't think of it a few hours ago - getting old
Part 101364 seizes according to him
