Sooo my question is, if you set off flying in the daylight and you only have certification to do that, then by some miscalculation end up landing after dark, do you get penalised by the aviation authorities ?
I think you'd get into trouble, but how would they find out and what would the punishment be? Maybe Steve or Gary knows. I don't. The dumb thing is that legally you have to land 10 minutes before end of daylight. That's cutting things a bit fine, I reckon, but that's the rule.
Correct. You would get into trouble and it’s easy for them to find out. You only have to look at FlightAware or similar to see landing times. I don’t know what the punishment would be, though. Maybe a fine or some compulsory retraining before being allowed to fly again. It shows poor planning and poor decision making for a non night-rated pilot to continue on after dark. Not to mention it’s dangerous. The accident records are littered with pilots who decided they “just had to get home”.
Departing Melbourne in half an hour to head home. Another nice evening here, amazingly. (apologies to Simon for the pics ) Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Looks gorgeous Steve..At least you have the power in that machine to make it home before End of Daylight…
I thought you complained about me posting too many pics of the aircraft! Sorry if I was wrong about that. So here’s another one. Loading up now. Image Unavailable, Please Login
