So the bottom of the frunk is also removable? If so it would seem that that would allow complete removal of the pop rivets holding the lower leather for the tool kit, and ease attachment of Chicago screws vs cap screws/nylocks in their place; is that correct? Also, another thread I saw addressing this issue implied using #10 sheetmetal screws for the (new) lower strap attachment, implying these would screw directly into the metal floor of the frunk; or would these new screws go into the presumably removable bottom liner of the frunk? Thanks in advance.
Yes, the bottom is removable and all rivets can be easily drilled out. You can re-rivet or use screws/nuts. I used Chicago screws on the leather strap sections, but used OEM rivets to reattach the strap brackets to the panels for the OEM look. To drill out the rivets I’d suggest pulling the panels out of the car otherwise you may lose the metal backing plates on the back sides of the panels. If you used #10 sheet metal screws you’d likely have to screw though the fiberglass panels and into the sheet metal, creating holes. Possible, yes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Remove all the panels before you start drilling. You’ll punch a hole into something you don’t want to. Also, the metal backing plate will bend out of the way when you’re trying to drill the rivet. Remove the panels and put them on a 2” x 4” on the ground and use that to drill into. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
The rivets are just plain pop rivets. Amazon sells a pop rivet gun and several different size/length pop rivets. These attach the straps and go through the panels and to the backing plates. It will all make sense when you get the panels removed from the frunk. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Just match the size and length of the new pop rivets to the originals. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I took my old cracked broken straps after I removed them, to a shoe store. He made me beautiful, real leather straps and used my existing buckles. It was $160 for all new leather straps. The OEM straps are complete junk! They look like cardboard inside. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I purchased replacement frunk straps for my 360 from Two Red Birds (link provided several posts up) and couldn't be happier with the results. I opted to use "Chicago Screws" and installation was very straightforward. As others have said previously, the OEM leather (if we can call it that) is an abomination and doesn't belong within a one mile radius of such a fine automobile.
I took the tool kit to a leather shop to have my tool kit case "renewed". They said that it was not leather, but vinyl over CARDBOARD and they couldn't fix it. I suspect the factory "leather" straps are the same
