So i decided to just go with my usual two bucket wash but i did buy a portable water deionizer. Used it this morning for the first time. What a huge difference. Firstly i washed the car on a cloudy day. Secondly i saved the drying time. No need to dry. Just rinse thoroughly with the DI water. Thirdly, no need to dry and risk swirl marks. Lastly, NO WATER SPOTS!!!! I should have bought this years ago.

Which DI system did you buy? I’ve been looking at them.

I have relatively hard water at my house and it has always been a race to dry the car before the rinse water evaporated and left water spots. Microfiber towel drying always left the glass streaky as well. This time it was truly spotless and couldn’t have been easier.

I’ve been using a DI filter for washing my cars for many years… They are awesome and save time and effort when detailing cars. I use the system by Griot’s Garage, (it looks like a scuba tank) and I use it for the wash cycle as well as for rinsing.

In addition to the time saving benefits, using DI water for the rinse prevents water spots in hard to reach detail elements and keeps the black trim under the frunk lid free of whitish residue. It also keeps areas like the door jam by the hinges free of spots.

It’s really worth getting a DI system if you’re into detailing your own cars. There are many systems available in various price ranges… No connection to Griot’s, just a multi-decade satisfied user.

    Cheers!

I am from NJ as well and also washed my car today.
I use a foam cannon with Adam’s mega foam
And use CR spotless. As you mentioned the CR system is amazing. No water spots whatsoever. You can actually see a difference in the water as you rinse your car. I also bought a Bigboi dryer too but today I was in a hurry and drove the car right after rinsing it
When I arrived at my destination the car was dry and spotless
Even all the glass was crystal clear
My system now saves me time washing
It was taking me over an hour to do the 2 bucket method and drying with a waffle towel
I can now do this in 15 minutes
Buy a de ionizer. You won’t regret it

One more thing, I was always told never to wash a car on a cloudy day (but to also never wash a car in the direct sun. haha). Today was cloudy and it turned out better than I have ever seen. Gives me more wash day/ time options than before. All with less time.

How many car rinses are you getting out of the CR system? 30? 50?

One additional benefit from rinsing with DI water is if it rains and the car wasn't driven in it to pick up road grime, the rain washes away any dust accumulation without leaving spots. Rain water is akin to distilled water. Pretty nice side benefit. I believe a previous poster said he just rinses his car with deionized water when it gets dusty and doesn't need to wash it.

I just got mine so I have only done one wash with it. But it will depend on what deionizer you have (how big and how much deionizer media it contains), how hard your water is, and how much water you use to rinse.
