There is something about this pic Joe posted, that makes me laugh. The Merc being towed behind a Honda.

As long as it’s not Leclerc and Sainz and no one’s hurt, I’m game.

For me the years I lived in Europe - 1989 - 1991 were formative and the most memorable. So its easy to recall. Given the chance to live it all again those would be the years - and literally would not change a thing!

My first Monaco was in 89 - and went with a friend who is Monegasque, so we stayed with his aunt in Cannes, and drove over every morning. His father was a property owner with 3 buildings in Monaco - one on the St. Devote corner.... the other two further up in the hills, with only a glimpse of the track. We drove down from Montreux Switzerland, leaving around 5 pm, got to Monaco about 2:30 Am. too late to go to his aunts place, and his Father was not in town... so we slept out on the Rocks at the harbor! That would be the inner harbor now before the cruise ship pier was added. at about 3AM the tide was in - and water was almost right there... at 9AM it was a 20 ' drop to the water! When I woke up - a bit hungover - I heard this weird noise - we were literally in the middle of a pack of seagulls all crooning... and surrounded by tons of Guano! we then rolled up the sleeping bags, and walked up to the Marina bathrooms, to get ready. at that point we were in the middle of the paddock. had a great time! in 1990 - my friends Father got us the full deal passes, balcony view on St. Devote etc... and we were invited to the Palace Party afterward. Met Prince Ranier, Albert and Stephanie... ( long story ) but to say it was memorable!!!!! lets say it makes my wife crazy when i tell the story.

I agree, when seeing Villeneuve at Watkins Glen he never look out of control... he was always smooth and usually in the same spot lap after lap. I do remember Patrick Depallier one year working a corner and he kept over shooting it, and my dad said "if he keeps it up he's going off" and sure enough next lap he spun. this was the corner before the new section joined the old track. ... the right hander.

The other is that the wheels on that cart are much better, not only to regular cars by a mile, but even to the F1 cars!!

Indy 500 winner Marcus Ericsson wore a Ronnie Peterson tribute helmet--nice touch.
