Read the room, man. It’s not up to me. I’m not telling you what it should be, but rather what it has traditionally been. Matt
I don’t do drivetrains either but I’m thinking this might be a Studebaker Golden Hawk or something Packard related. My only guess based on a junkyard education….LOL. Waiting patiently for guess the sun visor…..
Sweet C1! Vette folks probably have the year already while I’m appreciating the dash mounted rear view.
I’m just kidding with the Corvette. @TTR read the very first post in this thread. The spirit is to post an obscure car. Whoever guesses it then needs to post a new car. That’s the game. Matt
Yes, got it now, but as mentioned, all the photos of obscure or one-off cars I’ve taken, including European made, aren’t something I’m able or willing to share here, so based given criteria and/or the spirit, I’m out. P.S. @Isobel, your “junkyard” schooling may not have been complete waste.

The coil springs must be the tip-off here. Mostly that vintage would be leafs. The engine block looks small displacement. I can't figure what this is.
Guess the car. NO, NOT THAT ONE....! The one from which the pic was taken.....! With the hood bump and the fender thingies.... Image Unavailable, Please Login
True about leaf springs, so maybe a ‘56 Ambassador. I know Studebaker and AMC had a parts sharing agreement at one point but it didn’t last long, can’t remember why.
I love the look of those Chrysler Fire Power engines. I know a guy with a 392 with 2 x 4 bbl just sitting in his shop for 20 years. (He's gonna get to it). I've offered him $1K but he thinks it's worth $6K -- in need of a full rebuild.
Since the 1800's would seem to really narrow it down. Going by what's in my head, all I can think of is Studebaker. (I refuse to google the answer but I did google this photo). Image Unavailable, Please Login
Definitely worth $6K, even needy. Properly done that's a minimum $18K motor. I have one in progress as we speak, and it will easily exceed the 18k.......
Although not "392 with 2 x 4 bbl"s per se, but having recently finished and delivered two 354's (one went to UK), working on final assembly on another and a 276" (DeSoto), along with a '60 cross ram 413" (see post#8689) + have a few early Hemi's (incl. couple of 392"s) laying around in the shop, I agree. And mind you, with exception of the UK destined example having higher compression and few other internal mods, all are/were pretty much stock spec rebuilds and none are/were clad with any of that aftermarket bling-bling nonsense. But I think we need to get off this subject in this thread before somebody gets their undies wound too tightly...
I believe it is a reflection. A 190 SL would be about the same height as a 300 and I can’t think of another car that would have the same outline. In the reflection it seems the car in question has large bumper overriders (..like VWs pre 68) seen on the left. It might be an aftermarket form of parking protection (done for countless years on NYC cars for good reason) or simply an illusion. Got any ideas on what other car it might be? I’m not crazy about my guess….
You could find a driver for $20K in the early 80's. Add ten-fifteen grand if you want the wild doors. At the time my father purchased a new 1978 300SD. He still has the turbo diesel. A saloon or a driver Gullwing. Chic's dig the Gullwing. He should have honored my used car wish-list while I was in high school.
Does the reflection supply any clues? [and btw: I have NO clue, so am just curious] Image Unavailable, Please Login I get nuttin......
My initial thought was a GAZ or something like it, but the wraparound windshield throws it off. Besides, who in this day and age, let alone in current global political climate, not to mention "Memorial Day", would place an American flag on a Russian vehicle ...?
Jeep FC. I love those things. Can’t remember ever seeing a crew in the flesh, maybe this was made for the govt ( ie; U.S. Forestry Services or similar). . Wish they had moved on the concept version. Image Unavailable, Please Login
