Out for a drive yesterday, maybe 50 miles where about half of it was on the highway at the limit and the balance on 45 MPH roads. The temp gauge stayed normal for the entire drive and it was 103oF outside. At home, I pulled up the rear deck lid and the edge of the lid was hot as the dickens.

Question: How bulletproof are the 360 cooling systems in really hot weather, lets say 105-110oF for say, a three hour plus drive with the AC running.

If properly bled the system should be fine
What you are felling is the heat from the exhaust manifold /silencer
After a long drive many including myself open the rear deck to cool off

It sounds like the cooling system did its job while you were out on the road.

I open the rear deck to let the engine cool off after every drive. Why not?

Do you have a rear challenge grill? A significant amount of heat comes through it, so it obviously helps with cooling.

Yes, I do have a Challenge Grill. Also, I do open the deck lid after a drive.

The stock cats are huge and big heat tanks. My small HFC run way cooler.

Those temps are pretty strong and hard on any vehicle cooling system.
I would be more concerned if engine temp gauge was showing over 220

You, as a human , felt the difference between 100F and 70F as huge, so you worried a lot at 100F
For a car, it doesn't really mean much to her. 50F, 100F, in running conditions, pretty much the same to her.

I call it human feeling chauvinism.

I’d be more worried about stop and go traffic in super hot weather, the 360 seems to have great cooling when moving but stuck in traffic the second radiator fan has to come on sometimes even in cool Washington weather.

Cooling systems are pretty bulletproof. Areas I get concerned with based on experience. Age of the cooling system hoses. They are now 20+ years old and due for replacement. There are several hoses in particular that are very problematic due to the molded design. Road debris in the radiators is a common cause of hot running temperatures as is internal restriction in the radiators. Monitor the water pump and rebuild every other timing belt service.
Radiator cap is important to maintain pressure and prevent boiling, seen many cars "overheat" because they pushed coolant out the overflow at little to no pressure rather then holding the 15 PSI as designed.

360/430 cars have high radiant heat because of the almost sealed engine bays. When the car is parked..there is zero air flow so all the hear rises and blasts you in the face.

When moving the car actually pulls air out of the engine bay through openings in the under panels. So actual driving temps are kept at a decent temperature..

All in all it's really not much to worry about.
