Buy the Chinese version (not USA version) of the Launch x431 with the latest software. The dongle works best with the extension (yellow and red ends). I got mine from Amazon.
My autel has better definitions for fault codes than the Ferrari diagnostic software! Guess this isn’t what you’re after though mark? You’re a bit of a software wizz thought, right? I happen to have an SD3 in my possession at the moment, with all of the diagnostic discs for various models including 599. I guess with the right knowledge, and some spare time, you could extract the fault codes and their definitions from that? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat

Funny, have not seen an error code list for the 612 or the 599. Have them for several others, but Ferrari seems to have made them scarce starting around 2006. My latest was for the F430.
I have seen insinuations that the Chinese version of the x431 is a Leonardo rip-off from some time in the past. The USA devoted Launch products cannot use the copyrighted software, and hence do not work on Ferraris. Anyway, the x431 displays Ferrari proprietary codes and deletes codes if you fix things. It can also do oil service resets and the like. These guys in Austin: https://www.exotic-power.com/ use it and may even do remote diagnostics, as the x431 can communicate to another x431 over the internet.
I got a link where you can see all the functions of this device for a given model https://qcar.x431.com/qcar/#/pc/detail?series=1&car_type=2&soft_name=Ferrari&package_id=FERRARI&channel=2&product=469&pdt=PRO&ver=11.05&q=eyJsYW4iOiIxMDAxIn0%3D
George- Should be the same. There were some changes to ECUs around then but should not affect diagnostic codes.
Interesting. Does it communicate better with onboard data with extension or just has better Bluetooth range or both? I've never used my extension cable that came with it but would definitely reconsider if it offers better usability.
3 pros: It does communicate better, especially if the tablet is out of the car. The dongle seems to be more difficult to plug into the under-dash port than the extension. You can replace the leather cover and have the other end of the extension outside the cover.
