Great add from the US about gun security. Subtle but makes the point.

    hahahahahaha.......hilarious.

I'd love to be able to own a gun, but there's hardly anyone I want to shoot.

Seriously though, with the road rage and home invasions etc that are becoming so prevalent, I'd have no trouble justifying ownership....and I'd make sure I had all the training necessary.

Problem with that here is He , She or It , would have to be in your home and wound you to nearly being dead before you shot them otherwise they would throw you in jail for life…God forbid if your home is not OH&S compliant…If they tripped over or fell off your balcony while trying to rob you they could sue your ass off…

I do get that, but that's the music I'd be willing to face after I did whatever it is that I had to do to stay safe.

These people are out of control and nothing is being done about it.

Well, he's right. He did go on to say that they would have to be highly trained and willing, but that doesn't make a good headline. Surely it's a better option, under the current circumstances, than being defenceless.

Also, he brought up a good point. Why give billions to Ukraine but can't afford good security for schools?

Try and find the real figures of how often guns are used defensively... extremely rare. One of the US Fchatters lost a mate recently in a road rage incident - he had a gun in his car but unfortunately the other guy got to his first and the mate is dead...
Pretty much a zero sum game nowadays. As noted elsewhere, US police now seem reluctant to confront shooters because they have no ‘arms advantage’ anymore.

I’m sure... but the problem is when you get to the point like the US is now and everyone is carrying and jittery, it just ends in tragedy all round.

    I don't think you're right.

People aren't just randomly shooting people in the streets.

How many of the 300m people have shot someone?

No one said there aren't any, but there are 330m people. It's hardly prolific in percentage terms. It's like Wes' parking. A very few spoil things for everyone.

I am the President of the P&C Committee at the Primary school my kids attend. I have been doing this role for the last 2+ years.

Their school did not comply with the QLD Education Departments rule for school fencing.

We were told of this last year and we had to apply for a Government grant to help fund the new fence required. It wasn't a hard push at all as every school in QLD requires this fencing and the QLD Government helps pay for it so it was an easy win to get the funding. The quote was for this job was astronomical as you can imagine for 1000m+ of fencing.

They removed the old fence, removed the trees that were in the way and replanted trees as close as possible to where the old tree was removed. New driveways, new gates, new walkways, new high tensile padlocks and pad bolts everywhere, huge money involved if I must say.

The original fence was 40+ years old and was just a basic 1m high steel mesh fence. Easy to step over or jump over, anywhere around the school grounds.

The reason behind the new 7 foot high sharp pointed fencing is deter "unwanted visitors" on school grounds during the day, night and over the weekends which can cause a lockdown during school hours.

The amount of damage done to this school over the last 5 years my kids have been going there has been crazy. Smashed windows, trashed classrooms and the tuckshop broken into a few times a month guaranteed. It's a disgraceful act.

We don't have school shootings here, but every time an "unwanted visitor" comes onto the school grounds during school hours, whether it's kids or parents (parents come and cause problems also) the kids are actually trained to hide under their desks, the teacher pulls down the window shutters and she locks the doors. The doors are very solid wood doors on every classroom.

They teach the kids to go into "lockdown" in the event of an emergency once someone presses the alarm button which is in all the classrooms, library, offices and they practice this lockdown a few times a year anyway, but they do it for real many times throughout the year because of these people coming onto school grounds. They do this because you never know anyone's intentions when they come onto school grounds without visiting the office first.

The new fencing was completed before school started this January and it's been wonderful. Not one lockdown or damage done since. The kids have practiced a lockdown back in March, but no real events since this new fencing was erected.

The school main entry gate is locked at 8.45 am when school starts and all people have to report to the office which has it's own dedicated entry way just right of the main entry. There is no way onto school grounds, even if you visit the office as they have big solid wooden doors in there also. The kids that come late to school have to gain entry to class via the office. It's a great setup.

The new fence is 7 foot high and the pointy bits on the top don't look it, but are very very sharp when you reach up to feel them lol.

Most of the schools here already have this fencing, but still more schools to go.

I know this fencing won't stop a gun crazed mad man in the USA as you can bring a cordless grinder and start chopping into the bars to gain access or even bring a ladder if you want to get over etc. You can't cut the locks as they are well protected from the inside of the gates behind steel plates.

But...............this fencing is a GREAT deterrent that would slow anyone down if they wanted to get onto school grounds to shoot **** up. Might just be the difference needed to stop or slow someone down with bad intentions as it would give time to teachers, passers by, students, parents to raise the alarm to put the school into lockdown, call the Cops or get their own guns out to stop the bad person with the gun.

The very first time a lockdown occurred at my kids school when they were in Prep back in 2017, I **** myself and demanded answers as I was very concerned about their safety as I had never heard of any school here having lockdowns. The Principle was on hand at school pick up in the afternoon and she explained what happened and that it was a common thing to happen there. She then emails or texts out an official report of what happened during the lockdown so all parents know what happened on the day, she is very transparent which is good.

After I got my head around what kind of lockdowns this school has, I was not overly concerned about "unwanted visitors" coming onto school grounds during the day and harming my children or anyone else, it's usually young aboriginal kids causing the drama and different aboriginal families feuding/fighting with each other and they bring it onto school grounds during afternoon school pick ups.

But it's definitely comforting to know these kids are safe and they don't waste time going into lockdowns during the year because of some naughty kid/s walking through their school when they should be in school themselves anyway. Less lock downs means more learning which is good.

Here are some pics. I have included an old Google pic of the original old fencing at the back of the school and another pic of the same area I took today.

If any of our US friends want to bring this big fence suggestion up at their local schools, please let them know that Pap Custom Fencing & Fencing Supplies has 40 years experience in fencing and can offer international quotes and all our work is 100% guaranteed.

The aboriginal problem has always been an issue in the Isa mate, if you make it hard for them as you have then problem solved, they'll go find an easier target

Another 5 shot dead, this time at a hospital. Obviously the solution is yet more guns and harden the defences of EVERY school, hospital, sports ground, shopping centre, or anywhere that people congregate. That makes sense. To crazy people.
