Three Two Eight or Three Twenty Eight ?

Just for a bit of fun I thought I'd ask you guys if you call your car a 3-2-8 or a 3-28?

308's are easy as they can only really be called a 3-0-8.

I'm from Australia where we tend to call the 328 models a 3-2-8 where as many guys from the States call them 3-28's.

So what do you call them in your part of the world ?

 

I think it's generally the same thing for the 355, 458, 488, etc. with the US putting the last two numbers together and the Commonwealth countries saying three separate single digits. Do you say four-thirty or four-three-oh or something else?

3 oh 8

but it could be 3 zero 8

 

Three twenty eight
Three forty eight
Three fifty five
Three sixty
Four thirty

All that said, interestingly I do hear a lot of people say "four five eight" - I stick with four fifty eight and four eighty eight.

Also interesting is i rarely hear anyone- including myself- say "five ninety nine" - it is almost always "five nine nine"

 

So I say...

3 oh 8
3- 2- 8
2- 8- 8
3- 5 -5
2- 4 -6
5 -9- 9
4 -5- 8
4 -8- 8

But I think everyone in the world says 3 sixty and 4 thirty

What do the Italians call them?

 

2-9-6
Two-nine-six
Two-Ninety-six
2-Ninety-6

 

We've already had a thread on the same matter about two to three years ago...

That being said:

Italians call them "Tre Cento Otto" (usually pronounced "Tre Cent'Otto") which means Three Hundred Eight for 308s, and "Tre e Ventotto", which means Three and Twenty-Eight for 328s
The French call them "Trois-cent-huit" = Three Hundred Eight for 308s and "Trois-cent-vingt-huit" = Three Hundred and Twenty Eight for 328s
The Germans call them "Drei-Null-Acht" = Three Zero Eight for 308s and "Drei-Acht und Zwanzig" = Three Twenty Eight for 328s.

I have to admit that I have never heard anyone call the 328 a 3-28.

 

Three Oh Eight

Anything non-zero would be:

Three Twenty Eight
Three Forty Eight
Four Fifty Eight
Three Fifty Five

etc

I've never heard a 328 being called a 3-2-8. The way I see it, "328" is a single number, not three separate numbers. "Three hundred and twenty eight" makes more sense to me than saying "three two eight". That said, I have said and always will say "three twenty eight".

Has anyone ever called a 911 a "nine one one"? Only if they're dialing the police. The whole world says "nine eleven".

 

I‘m not sure, whether I would be happy with a car called like one of the worst days the world has ever experienced.

Well...not trying to be "different", and not very much into Porsches either...
But to the best of my knowledge, the French usually say "neuf cent onze" = "nine hundred eleven".
So: not the whole world says "nine eleven"...

Even some Germans say "Neun-Elfer", what somehow translates to "Nine-Elevener". Same with the 3x8-Ferraris. " Three-Zero-Eighter", Three-twentyeighter".

You know it kind of depends on what rolls off the tongue easy and what sounds awkward. For a 328 I think it can be either three-two-eight or three-twenty-eight but when you get to 360 I think three-six-oh sounds weird as would four-oh-oh and obviously three-hundred-eight.
