So here we are, practically 7 yrs. later to the day, and not One vid or sound clip of any upgraded systems. There are enough You-Tubes on the stock set-up & I sure was hoping that the many on here would have ‘treated’ us to their set-up but to no avail.
    Rather disappointed…

It’s too bad you can’t load short video clips to FChat like you can on FB.

Just noticed this thread. As mentioned before, it's difficult to truly understand an exhaust note from a video.
Some years ago a replaced the system on my '72 365 GTC/4. I used a custom made crossover tube on each bank, an Ansa front muffler, no center section, and Ansa rear muffler/tailpipe setup. Car sounded good, but was not much louder than stock. I was surprised how little difference the center section, or lack thereof, made.
I currently have a '71 365 GTC/4 that was fitted with a stainless steel system many years ago. It sounds great, not quite as 'throaty' as a factory system, a bit louder but not much. Not 'tinny' at all. Only drawback is the vertical thickness of the front and center sections, which gives very little ground clearance. I believe it is a quicksilver system and has been on the car for 25 years.
    Both examples are euro-spec cars.

    Good day Brad,

Sounds great! Perhaps post up what you have for an exhaust system (stock, modified stock, custom, etc) so we have a reference as to what is generating the music :) ?

    Cheers,

    Sam

Yes, perhaps not too surprisingly the setup is simply high-flow catalytic converters and some pipes.
New spark plugs made a huge difference in smoothness, so I thought I'd give it a try and quieten it down incrementally as needed (depending on how many complaints I get)
Very deep at idle and low revs, transitions to a scream at high revs, a few pops on the overrun (as you can just hear as it disappears over the horizon).
Really it's too raucous for the "executive express" the car is intended to be, but if you think of it as a 1960's V12 with rear seats then it works very well indeed.

Seems to me the middle sections were removed, given how the 412 exhaust is designed, this is the equivalent of four mufflers removed in the 400i...

Exhaust camshafts sound retarded: does it make an even louder "craaaa" on the left?

It's simply high-flow catalytic converters and straight pipes.
Realistically it needs to come down in volume a little.
    Eventually...

I run one dual pipe long BMW M635i "thick wall" muffler in front and a Stebro stainless rear "original clone" muffler/end pipes on each side. Works very well. A bit more noise but not annoying. Looks like an original (painted the same) from the side as the rear boxes look identical to original. Deep note on low revs and glorious when given some throttle. No cats.

Mine is stock rear mufflers only and straight pipes the rest of the way. Has a nice deep sound at idle and sounds great at 3000rpm. No drone, not loud.

Could someone please tell me what size the factory ( ANSA ) exhaust pipes are? 2" or maybe 2 1/4"? Thanks!
