Are you familiar with the self test procedure in the Workshop Manual? You don't have to guess what's wrong with these brake systems. They will tell you with an error "code".

The manual also lists possible faults if there is no code.... and possible faults if the light cycles on/off normally on startup, but comes back on above 8kph.

I was thinking that someone may have left the test fuse in its slot in the frunk, but I've been told that affects the brakes (Yours are "perfect"). I would get them to check anyway if they have done the self test.

So you're asking out of curiosity ... or have they given up on the car? To be honest, I didn't know you could reflash the ECU. It almost sounds like they were running out of parts... or ideas.
If there are no codes, the manual suggests these possible faults:

    A) Loss of power to the unit
    B) Internal ECU fault sufficient to deactivate the ABS
    C) Internal ECU fault related to the light circuit
    D) Short circuit of light circuit (to earth).

If your ABS is operating normally, that leaves C or D.

(EDIT: After the car cooled down, did the problem go away? I'm trying to understand why the problem is intermittent)

Maybe a look though a Ford t-bird SuperCoupe service manual or Jaguar XJ series would help. Those cars used the same system as in the Ferrari if I remember right.

I'm not sure , I was not there for the tests they have done, I believe they have narrowed it down the a faulty ECU, hope it gets resolved soon

FYI, whenever you see a spare Motronic 2.7 ECU come up for sale, buy it. Good to have spares. I bought 2. They cannot be flashed. However, the chips inside do deteriorate over time. We can get you a fresh one if you need it. Check with the Stooges in the 348/355 section. Also, there are at least 3 versions of these chips that we have found with not too different programming.
