Never seen the 16 before, Walter Reed has the 15 and has had it for a while. Full Proof Friday tonight courtesy of the Garrison. Working all weekend but road trip escape to Yellowstone soon enough. Powering thru. Image Unavailable, Please Login
everyone's palate is different. can't expect everyone to like the same thing, how boring would that be? that being said, if anyone told me it was "pick one single favorite or your life ends here" welp.....checking to make sure my will is signed y'all.
It is in fact Tagalong Tuesday. Just a proof of life for a friend so he knows his handshake is stashed in case the bottle dies....though it's not in any immediate danger. This stuff is reeeeaaaallllly nice. Doesnt drink to 127.9 thats for sure. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Knocked out the Calumet 16. My opinion is identical to the 14 and 15. Very good but unremarkable bourbon. Can get identical palate from whiskeys more than half the price. My opinion of them is now the same as that of Kentucky Owl, very good but way overpriced. Opened up the Clyde Mays 13 and it is fantastic. I recommend it if you happen onto one. Also scored a bottle of michters barrel strength. Image Unavailable, Please Login
You wasted no time on that Calumet....well done sir! Have you ever done "regular" clyde may's? If so, what's your opinion on the 13 by comparison? Taking that Yellowstone 101 you helped me procure along with us on our road trip to the park. Have a couple really good friends I haven't seen in several years joining us out there, and none of them have ever seen a bottle in person so it's on the short list of "must be shared properly" this go.
The CM 6ye special reserve is the sweet spot for me. I grab a bottle of it at around $55 every time I find it to put in the daily rotation. It's up there with the McKenna 10, Wilderness Trail 6yr, in regards to best dram for the buck. The 13 is better. Enjoy.
I’ve never been the greatest OB fan. I have found their LE releases to oft be disappointing. I almost didn’t buy this one. I’m glad I did because it’s quite special. Super strong nose yet super smooth to drink. Tons of character, depth, and complexity at the lower end of the proof scale. It’s a great bourbon. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I wondered about this one because it is readily available in stores here. Pretty steep price for an OB.
I opened the George Remus Single Barrel Barrel Strength and the first pour was kind of a hot mess. Way too many ethanol vapors and a pepper finish. I let it sit for awhile and the second pour was actually quite enjoyable.
Breezy and chilly after a big storm just missed us. This fit the bill. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Having a Wyoming Whiskey Outryder at the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar. Image Unavailable, Please Login Admittedly Alden 405s aren't ideal for saddle time but....i think they'll work here.
You're probably mostly tracking the Yellowstone closures which threw a massive wrench in the works of our plans this week. We managed to book at Grand Teton Nat'l Park instead, and YNP is refunding everything due to the closures (a minor concern compared to the folks in Gardiner MT completely cut off from everything right now). A good steady line of RVs and Subarus coming south presumably evacuees, so it seems like everyone's at least getting to safety. Thats the most important bit. Had a blantons at Jenny Lake earlier, blue run 13.5yr now with bacon wrapped snausages. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Crazy out there now. Yellowstone and southern MT really got hit. Lots on Utube… the river running thru Red Lodge was amazing to watch. Most of Yellowstone might be closed for the season. Huge blow to vacationers and everyone working there to support them. Nice picture spot. Special place. We need to get back there.
Just broke open an Old Elk store pick. I did not have high hopes but wow. 111 proof, great mouthfeel. What a rich and smooth bourbon.
