lets say you owned a 2005 F1 430 with 25k miles. red over black.
all maintenance has been done, and you have a solid car with new tires.
    probably worth $135k.

you have to choose something of more/less equal value.

    whats it going to be?

Assuming you want to stick with 2 seat car to fill the same “spot”, here are some off the top of my head.

    1) Vanquish or Vantage V12
    2) Gated Gallardo
    3) 550
    4) R8 v10
    5) buy the dip :)

My picks for grand tourer are 550 or manual Aston dbs.

For sports cars, maybe just convert your 430 to gated, will feel like a whole different car. Otherwise gated 360, Porsche gt4/spyder

I have to pick something that is more or less around $135k? Probably an older GT3, though I'm not a huge fan of Porsche. I really don't think there is anything out there that has the same theater and design as the 430 in this class. I've driven a Porsche Turbo in this price range but I was not a fan of how it drove. An NSX would be interesting, but I've never driven one.

I just thought of another car that will be in the $135 range, an FF. I would look at those as well.

Don’t really like Lamborghini’s image at the moment, Astons drive like an old man’s car and 911 Turbos although a great car are boring.

    Probably a, CLK63 Black, E46 M3 CSL or Cayman GT4 / 911 GT3.

I think it'd be fun to own one of those. Just depends on if you're considering this a long term buy, or just trying something new. My only concern with the Viper's is that my impression is they are always trying to kill the driver. It would be a cool car to have though, especially since I think you still have other Ferrari's from what I've read on other posts. I'd consider the Gallardo, C8 Z06, Cayman GT4, Jaguar F-type, maybe an M3? I've heard good things about the ZL1 1LE if you want to try something different.

good suggestions so far. altho i dont see any of them being a competitor, for the money, to the 430. (maybe i am making an effective argument for keeping it yet again !)

the viper intrigues me just because it is so different but also performant.
i just dont know if i am viper guy....

They are definitely not replacements. I'd take the F430 over any of those as a long term hold, but that's why I was wondering if it was a long term buy or just trying something new. The only one of those I'd consider is the C8 Z06, but that's only because to me it'd be easier and more economical to deal with on a long term basis and I wouldn't have to sacrifice the sound of a high strung v8. Also, I know I'd get more use out of it. The F430 is one of the few, if not the only, cars that perfectly straddles the line between the classic and modern performance car segment. In fact, I'd say it is the actual line between the old and new cars both in performance and styling.

Same, I would do my 430 plus $$ for a 458, but that's it. None of the cars on the list would provide for me what the 430 does. We just bought our car in March, so we were in that range of spend and looked at everything before choosing the F.

I would keep the F430. Maybe a small tuning can help to revive the joy (eg lowering, spacers, etc.), one which does not cost much and you can easily return the car to its original condition. An F430 is an extremely good car that offers a lot of driving emotions. The risk that you make a mistake with a swap is big.

    Do you know what, this^

I know you asked for an alternative, but they are all "also ran"

The F430 is the car at this price point, if running costs is not a problem. Hell I have had all sorts of cars and I would choose the F430 again and again!

i am tending towards keeping it (again).

but, also surprised nobody mentioned a maclaren as an alternative....you can buy a well sorted 12c for the same price.

i used to be like that, and then got to drive one and it was an eye opener. highly recommend taking one for a spin - the suspension is magnificent.
but, the visceral aspects of the 430 are still better.
if my car ever got stolen or totaled i might try the 12c

    like these too.
    looked at a few actually.
but now they are asking closer to $200k for even the early ones with the crap f1 tranny, so it is a big switch....and at that kind of price, many other options start to pop up.

thats why i worded the op the way i did.....

Maybe, but I still don't like the looks, and I will certainly never lust after one like I do a Ferrari, no matter how good they are!!

I suppose Some like Kiera Knightly, she might be amazing, but I'd tell her to put her cloths back on !
