Agree - and on top of that, does Zack want a (has been) drama queen to mess up what looks like a strong team that is working good together? I don't think Alonso has been happy in a team since 2006. Expensive and a drama queen, I don't think that is what Zack wants at the moment no matter how much he likes him.
Agree'd. He has been composed and overall doing his job without much press. Id risk hiring him vs Mick or others. He's a total professional and gives all.
Ofcourse if Zack wants the biggest drama queen he'll approach McHam. I'd like to see what Gasly can do in that McLaren.
He has outqualified and outpaced Ocon most of the time. Two DNF and some bad luck make the points difference. To be honest, Ocon has been regularly beaten by all his team mates. He´s one of those drivers that for whatever reason gets one more chance year after year while others like, for example, Vandoorne, disappear without notice.
Well Ocon comes from literately nothing, so in a sport where money buys you a seat, he must be doing something the team bosses like as they have to pay him. Verdoorne basically became one of several victims of McLarens love for Alonso
One could feel sympathy when he was in karting but Ocon got into F1 as a Mercedes protegée, so from then on he must deliver as everybody else. McLaren could have kept Vandoorne alongside Sainz or Norris, but got axed after only season. I´m not saying that Vandoorne is better or worse than Ocon, but some drivers have more time in the spotlight than others without apparent reason.
Ric finally beats Norris... barely and a little bit questionably... and right away he's yapping about the "big step" he's made.
To be fair, it is a huge step he made just getting on par with Lando, that is how far behind he has been all season. But Canada is most likely back to the reallity ...
I personally was and am so sick of the McLaren drivers radios. I’m faster, no I’m faster, he should move over, no he should move over. Just drive the cars ladies and let your driving do the talking. If you’re so much faster Lando then pass him. The kid was 15 car lengths behind telling Daniel to pick up is pace. The radio bitching is getting annoying.
Actually I wish they had proximity radio so drivers could talk to each other. Imagine the fire works!
At McLaren, I think team strategy during the race has definitely fell in Ric's favor. I don't think it's malicious, just a team trying to ensure the most points. But either way... I don't think ending the race directly in front of your teammate after being behind in both qually and the race for two years... mostly anyway... qualifies as some giant leap forward and somehow indicates a future etched in stone. I honestly believe that Lando will continue to hand Ric his ass for the rest of the season. I just can't stand the self-aggrandizing and constant self-promotion from a mid-packer at best.
The hiring manager also has to take into account his cost and remaining years of service. His days at a top team, or what had been recently considered a top team, were sadly wasted at Ferrari. There was no reason at the time to think Ferrari would fall off a cliff, but it happened.....
It's not going to be Gasly that replaces Ricciardo this or next year, as he just announced to stay at AlphaTauri for 2023
McLaren’s Zak Brown has dispelled any doubts that Daniel Ricciardo could be dropped for 2023, reiterating the team’s faith in the driver.Brown confirmed Ricciardo will see out his three-year deal with McLaren, which means he will definitely be at the wheel of the MCL37 in 2023, and Brown said he knows more performances like his race victory at Monza in 2021 are still in Ricciardo. https://www.planetf1.com/news/mclaren-daniel-ricciardo-position-2023/
hmmmmm......Ted's notebook yesterday said that the rumor around the paddock is Piastri will replace Ricciardo at the end of 2022. I wonder if Ricciardo has a performance clause in his contract.
ricciardo caught giving the finger twice this weekend...one to I think his phone, presumably shortly after speaking to someone, 2nd to his car. Tweet— Twitter API (@user) date Tweet— Twitter API (@user) date When Norris' car was towed away on Friday the car had a really odd balance, normally you see a marshal desperately holding the front down or even sitting on it to keep the car level but now the car did it all by itself. I think the big problem for Daniel is that the car goes completely against what he wants from it and he just can't adapt without losing so much time.
I feel for Daniel. Yet Norris just has a better integration with this car. I’m amazed they will keep Daniel overall. They must see his potential on some level.
