Thats been the case really since Saudi. Minor mech issue etc. Ferrari have no answer as of yet. Its a RedBull year. Utterly obvious by now.
Ferrari sucks at pit stops. Today demonstrated that two things can screw up the "easier passing" concept: 1. Slower cars create parades that are hard to pass. 2. Tire age difference can cause problems. Ocon played it smart against Charles: Ocon braked early in the turns, causing Charles to lose momentum. With fresher tires, Ocon could put down power harder and be gone by the time Charles got on DRS. But then Carlos had the same problem with Max. The Ferraris are losing too much momentum in slow corners. Maybe that's just an artifact of following another car. People have been hard on Carlos, but I think he's showing the true performance of the package. The race results are saying that the Ferraris are just a tad slower than Red Bull in a racing lap. The only reason that isn't more obvious is that Charles seems to be able to put together amazing qualifying laps that exceed the true capability of the package. But race results show that those laps are not repeatable. Ferrari is (so far) losing the "development race".
+1 always a deg issue for tires and race impact. Ferrari have no answer yet to RedBull or one driven by Max. The marginal pace difference is found in sections the Ferrari chassis does not excel in. I think if Perez has a good car today he would have been P3 or P4. The racing this season is not that good. Following is ok but the delta to pass is not found now like last year overall. One slow car and impact too many other faster ones. NO safety cars today and this was not going to be a very exciting event.
Image Unavailable, Please Login Saw Leclerc make this 2 passes at the hairpin Seeing it in person really takes nerves of steel heading into the hairpin at those speeds and then holding it together to outbreak
Can't believe that the Commentators couldn't see that Tsunoda's front suspension broke -- looked to me like he tried to turn right, but the right front wheel never went right (the left front did go right).
This is interesting as Max had several lead changes, managed the safety car and pressure from Carlos. Im thinking he was driver of the day. Charles did well to move up of course. Still not seeing him as Driver of the Day overall.
Seeing those pit stops in person made me so frustrated. I think it may have made the difference for CS and definitely would have put CL up at least another spot. I would be whipping the pit crew.
Look at 0:04 -- Left front turning right, right front still pointing straight ahead: Image Unavailable, Please Login The right front just stays almost straight ahead during the whole video (until it hits the barrier ).
Gained four points on Red Bull in the constructors championship. As a tifosi for 25 years, that's what maters most. IMHO
Yikes , at least the pit could communicate https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/verstappen-suffered-radio-failure-ahead-of-final-canada-f1-restart/10325532/ Impressive that the last 15 laps were flat out
That's what I see. If you watch only the driver's input first, then replay it and watch only the left front wheel, then replay it again and watch only the right front wheel you see the wheels are not moving in unison to the driver's input. /
Ferrari unhappy with race director’s late decision to deploy Safety Car 2022 Canadian Grand Prix Posted on 19th June 2022, 23:02 | Written by Keith Collantine and Claire Cottingham Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto says the race director needs to take “sharper decisions” after what he feels was a late call to deploy the Safety Car during the Canadian Grand Prix. HOW ABOUT FASTER PIT STOPS BINOTTO???????? https://www.racefans.net/2022/06/19/ferrari-unhappy-with-race-directors-late-decision-to-deploy-safety-car/
A mechanical failure resulting in DNF for one of two cars is hardly "flawlessly". Could have happened to Max, and maybe it will.
Binotto needs to go. The team has been a mess lately. It also seems that Alpine and Mercedes have improved tremendously and are much closer to Ferrari. The Scuderia , however, seems like it not improving or even learning from their mistakes.
I disagree. Ferrari was right there all race with Red Bull. Prior to the beginning of this season, being in contention for both championships was a pipe dream. Ferrari is moving in the right direction and credit should he given to Binotto. Obviously, we aren’t quite there yet.
Max was pretty much expected to win as he had the pole Having Perez lose a tranny allowed Ferrari to showcase their drivers and grab some nice points today After last week folks were questioning the Ferrari PU and it came to work in Canada
Ferrari also blew a bunch of races and gifted them to RedBull. These were races where Ferrari clearly had the advantage and/ or were in a lead. Whether reliability issues or strategy or both... So if Binotto takes credit for the beginning of the season, who will take responsibility for the failures?! I am sorry but to do a pit stop for 5.3 sec, when everybody else ( meaning top teams) was 2.3- 2.5 sec is a bit embarrassing. There also seem to be lack of improvement in the car ( still cannot come close enough to try to overtake RedBull), but in the meantime Renault and Mercedes are much closer.
