It looks a bit like a Borla, but doesn’t have the Borla markings on the cans. The layout and the tips are the same though.

Thanks. The place I bought it from had this one listed on ebay as a Borla. I searched and cannot find any information on a Borla 355 exhaust - internet or Borla.com site.

Any links you can share? Much appreciated.

RIP Alex Borla, the founder of Borla exhausts. He passed away a couple of months ago. A great man and great American, and someone I got to know a little bit.

This one certainly stumped me. Without Andrew this would go into the 355 unsolved mysteries file.

    Greg,

You might have a Borla prototype F355 muffler and perhaps that's why it's not embossed.

Borla was once a sponsor on FerrariChat. I remember, years ago, the company trying to increase their repertoire and offering to make mufflers for the F355. They were already producing mufflers for the 308 and 308 GT4, all with their signature intercooled exhaust tips which they still offer today...

Once your son is finished cleaning and polishing it up, you'll have a well-made and nice-sounding exhaust.

Update.. I'm in the process of installing this mystery Borla. I realized it was on a 2.7 car and I need to visit a welder to install a bung for the exhaust sensor.

Bigger issue I cannot yet figure out ... the Borla exhaust flange is rotated 45 degrees whereas the OEM and other aftermarket exhausts are straight up and down.

@FourthAlfa - do you recall how yours connected?...Yours was also rotated 45 degrees. So odd.

The 2.7 Y pipe has a flange that mates to the muffler that can be rotated. That’s where your problem is. It was designed for a 2.7 install.

Good to know for anyone with a 5.2 and shopping for a used aftermarket exhaust. Thanks.

Jumping in a bit late, but yes - exactly as Elliott mentioned, on a 2.7 the flange on the Y-pipe swivels around.

Have you already checked the connection between the cats and the inputs to the muffler? The Borla uses the "expanded pipe" for a slide together connection (typical muffler connection), but the original connections uses a flange connection (much nicer). The half of the flange on the cats should simply slide off, and then the cat exit pipe should slide into the pipe on the Borla (and then a muffle clamp to hold together), but on mine the whole slip fit pipe situation was a bit of a mess (the slot cut into the muffler pipe started to split). That will probably take some fiddling to get right.

For the thermocouple bung I would try McMaster Carr.

They are all over the place, very common item mane verities from screw in to weld on. Google 'thermocouple bung' or ''THERMOCOUPLE COMPRESSION FITTING' and go to images.

Getting there. Found an M10x1.0 banjo bolt that the machine shop made work as the bung. Flange cut and re=welded. Will post vids once done. Image Unavailable, Please Login
