Thanks for sharing mate, brought a tear to my eye knowing his Dad gave that to him before he passed away. Not a big dollar Rolex, but it's definitely priceless to him and his family and I am sure he will pass this Rolex down onto his son one day also.
Here is a nice little story from today...... This morning I was out and about doing some things up town and I bumped into an old friend. His name is John. I started talking to John about random crap when I noticed on his wrist that he may have been wearing a Rolex watch. I had to pull him and ask him if that was indeed an old Rolex watch as I had never noticed him wearing one before. Why YES it is he said, with a big grin on his face lol He said I was the third person in the last 46 years to ask him if that was a Rolex watch he was wearing. John purchased a Rolex Submariner Meters First brand new at an authorised dealer in Sydney back in 1975. He removed the watch to show me that he had it engraved on the back with his full name and Mount Isa Fire Brigade 1975. He worked as a Fireman his entire life here in the Isa and is now retired. You can tell it's been worn as a daily watch for the last 46 years. It's not trashed, but has some wonderful patina on it and the original bracelet is very stretched lol He is going to pass this watch down to his oldest son who's name is John also. He has all the books, box and receipt for the watch at home. I forgot to ask him what he paid for it back in 1975, but I will next time I see him.
So at an auction house today and 55 year old Rolex Chronograph is up for auction, nice face ,original non original band.Estimate $1,000 to 2,000 plus 23%. Now bidding is at $21,300 plus 23% and the winning bidder at the moment a dealer! Yikes.great win for the sellers estate -who has been dead for years ! As always my sister (you know the one house in Brighton with tower - 1912 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost) classy as ever , meet up she loads up a Sutherland table in her 997 Turbo cab Series 11 with the roof down and I cart of a Gents chair she bought in the GTS SUV . & odd for some reason at the moment I am the winning bidder on a magnificent S/S cup..ideal as a Vintage Champagne ice bucket.
