How was the initial drive? Looks amazing!
It was short, just wanted to verify shifter alignment through the gears etc. The clutch is noticeably heavier than the 512's, reminds me of my ex 440+6 Challenger.
My 365BB was in Japan for a few years where a hydraulic actuator was fitted to the clutch. When the previous UK owner, from whom I got the car, put it through Classiche the clutch operation was returned to cable. The hydraulics are still in a box that came with the car, together with a Dinoplex that must have been fitted for certification. Ignition is now MSD based.
Correct, like a 308. The bottom of every BB512 and Testarossa box has two rectangular machined bosses near the rear drain plug. Those are the remains of what the clutch cable bracket attached to on the 365, they left the bosses but un-drilled for studs, never eliminated them from the casting process.
Not sure you’ve seen this but just happened to find this and a bunch of pictures of (pretty sure) your subject car while browsing the Stanford U archives of R&T material. An absolute "gold mine" of detailed pictures of the R&T 365 GT/4 BB test car; looks like Chuck Queener at the controls! Super find there.
These pics are incredible! Thanks so much for posting. There is even the chassis # in one of the pics confirming it is this car.
Amazing indeed—like opening a time capsule. Happy to contribute to this amazing thread of an iconic car and incredible workmanship. Enjoy the finished product in good health.
There are over 100 period photos from the Road and Track shoot on Stanford Universitty website. I was able to download for the car’s file. Polished stainless like a Testarossa as they're part of the muffler cans then masked off where the black coating begins. The BB's had polished stainless steel tips as well but were removable covers over the stainless steel dull tips.
40k orginal list price, Ill take 3 or 4 then. Nowadays you need 400k for a new Me ferrari. Thats inflation, complexity of new cars and added performance. Not sure the new one is more fun.
Yea with inflation it would be $226k today, which can get you a Roma or Portofino, pre options of course. Sent from my Pixel 7 Pro using Tapatalk
