These look spectacular imo. Anyone else do this? Any pitfalls? Offsets look perfect. Anyone got more pics? Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Few pics out here in wheel threads. Yes probably the best looking option. Down side, freaking wide both ends, frankly too much tire for the 348. Sent using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Thanks. I found the original thread on the subject. I think I’m going to pass. I don’t know why I am obsessing about the wheels; honestly the oem wheels are one of my favorite oem wheels ever. I just wish there was a better tire selection. The 348 doesn’t look right with 18s, honestly. It looks….off. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Not at all it looks off with 19" but with 18's it looks correct, 17's look small. Its like saying the 355 looks off with 18's. Best option in my opinion is 360 starfish with 17mm shaved off the rear hubs, I have 355 wheels, 360's just looks better wit the strakes.
Disagree. The larger the wheel the shorter the car appears. The 355 has very different graphics and was penned around 18” wheels.
They started with the 348, changed the door intakes and added a kick tail then added 18's as that was standard at the time in the late 80's 17's were big. They did not start within 18's and design around it, its the same basic chassis and car. Not all opinions are right, some opinions are more correct. No matter you like 17's so go with it! Eye of the beholder and all that. I get it. Check out BCForged custom wheels. Slick 17 in wheels would be nice to see for a change. https://bcforged-na.com/
Heh, I hate Starfish wheels on the 360.......and others I know hate them even more than me. I don't think the 355 wheels look too bad. And of course Challenge wheels look great. But I do also love the stock 348 wheels. They especially look good on a Mondial too. I will say those 550 wheels do look good though, that's for sure. Maybe too much tire as someone said.
I'm like the only person in the world who thinks challenge wheels look not so good. Sent using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I had the 355 wheels on my 348 and in my humble personal opinion they not only look good, they also made the car handle so much better and more stable at triple digit speed. See pictures. https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/550-maranello-wheels-on-348.426685/ good thread that black car is ijvpet's 348 spider which he has since sold, can't find more pics of it online but I recall it is slightly lowered to achieve that look.
The front in way over-lowered relative to the back, same with the red one above. I bet they steer real quick. Sent using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Not my favorite....at all. Kind of boring looking, but I understand they were an option at the time and I don't find them hideous.
Probably. haha. I will also say that it does depend. I've seen some Challenge wheel installations where they are way pushed into the wheel wells. Others, maybe they are using spacers, look much better. Could be the difference between the two versions of the Speedline Challenge wheels, not sure.
Is there an aggreed upon “ideal” width and offset for the 348? I’m thinking of having something built. Off the top of my head I’m thinking.. Front: Image Unavailable, Please Login Rear: Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
355 wheels re 7.5" front and 10" rear. 10" rear is a lot for 300 hp and the 5 speed. 8.5" front is WIDE that's 1 inch wider with rubber that fits that's not stretched on like a low rider that's wide for no power steering. For the 348's power I like 9"- 9.5" rear and 7.5" front. Good luck on your journey!
I wouldn’t worry so much about the wheel widths. The trend today is to use the widest possible wheel a tire can take (w/o stretching) and those widths work well with a 225/265 combo. If those offsets are good… I dunno. Could be off. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Looks wise, sure. But Eric is right otherwise. I'd hate to fight an 8.5 inch wheel with sticky tires with no power steering, then again, no power steering is also why I love the 348 so much. What's wrong with keeping it as-is?
I take your point, but I think the incremental weight gain between a 7.5” wheel and a 8.5” wheel is minimal.
It's less about weight and more about moving a sticky, larger contact patch tire around while stationary or near stationary.
I've got 225 in front on 7.5. And on 8.5 it would stretch. To each their own however. Challenge wheels are 8.0 in front if I recall. I would not go bigger than those. There is a reason they are that size. Just a thought. Sent using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I actually think the OEM wheels power coated will look good, especially a darker bronzeish tone, then lower the car. Both ends not just the front like folks do.
I appreciate you guys trying to keep me from making a mistake. I think the tire stretch concern is easily disproven by looking up a tire’s specs. But I do take the weight/width/unassisted steering issue seriously. Thanks fellas. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Man your difficult sometimes. Here is a 225 on a 8.5" rim. If you like that and consider it not stretched then you and I have very different definitions is all. Enjoy it how you like it but... THAT IS MOTHER-EFFING STRETCHED. The up side is that stretched side wall probably wont run the fenders so thre that silver lining. Image Unavailable, Please Login
That is definitionally not stretched. Image Unavailable, Please Login This is stretched. Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
